You will be able to ice fish for panfish only.

You heard correct fishindude. These rules take effect Jan. 2010.

Bass & muskie also had their seasons extended one extra month, now open until Dec 15th. Pike and panfish will have a full time open season. Just hoping Pike hunters count the pores on the under side of the jaw..pike have 5 or less on each side, muskie 6 or more. Hate to see those two misidentified.. Pike will only be found from Sturgeon Lake and to the west towards Simcoe only.. Not much changed for walleye, slots and limits. Hopefully by next year resorts will have some huts to rent..

Here is the link to regulation changes for Zone 17.

i haven't heard of any pike entering sturgeon yet... Balsam, Cameron, and Mitchel do for sure, and obviously Canal (which is where the pike are coming from).

i think if anybody knows the number of pores on the underside of a pike and muskie's jaw, they will be able to tell the difference between the two without looking at their jaw, LOL.

there was a huge change for walleye size limits (season will be the same as the past however). you will only be able to keep fish between 13.8
and 19.7 inches... everything above that and below that range you will have to release! there will be no ice fishing for walleye except for lakes that were already open for them (e.g. Scugog).

Also, there are huts lined up on the shore of Bewdley right now, with more to come, i am told. that might be a little premature i think, as the hut operators wont even know for sure where the fish are at this time of year... sounds kinda risky to me... taking people out to a hut that could never see a fish in the area that it sits...

Pike have been moving through Canal Lake for over 20yrs. There has been unconfirmed reports of pike catches noted as far east as Sturgeon L.. Cameron has'm for sure. Sad to say, but they're entering into my lake, Sturgeon Lake at lock 34 Fenelon Falls also.

As for correctly identifying pike Vs muskie, you'd be surprised..

I think it was a very good choice opening some of these other lakes, it should take some of the pressure off Scugog and her walleye. Maybe take a bit off the all mighty Quinte eyes also..

Great to hear the Bewdly guys are getting things done. Rice Lake has a lot of crappie.. It won't take the fellas long to find'm.
