I went on the Picton web site last nite and sent out a couple e-mails to see if we could get some action on fixing the light at the dock. The reply is below; hopefully we will get some action.

"Your inquiry regarding the light at the municipal launch and dock is being forwarded to our Community Services- Physical Properties department for action. Please contact them at 476-1159 (6 Ross Street, Picton) if your require further assistance.

One doesn't mind the suggested $4.00 fee for us of the launch ramp BUT get the lights' on - PLEASE.

So, with the new $4 ramp fee, does that mean we can expect that they will have sand and salt available for us to use when the ramp gets iced up?

You won't see any salt at the boat ramp because its AGAINST THE LAW. WHEN WILL YOU HYPOCRITS GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS THAT SALT IS A POLLUTANT.
With any luck when they come to change the light bulb they will close the ramp.

I agree with polliwogg but I will say it a little more politely.

<u>Please</u> refrain from using salt or any chemicals on the boat launch. This chemicals will run directly into the water and thus polluting it.

Unless there is some environmentally friendly ice melting chemical out there that I don't know about...

I try to be as enviromently friendly as the next guy however I have not had great luck using just sand. Does anyone have other suggestions??

The ideal thing would be for the county to provide some kind of traction grate.
Someone noted the bay temp. at 45 deg, if its not too cold you might simply wash the ice away with water from the harbour.
I think I would invest in a set of tire chains, then you can keep them handy all winter and they'll last forever eventually being cheaper than salt.

You'll wait a couple of seasons before you see any work done a ramp that isn't crumbling to pieces. A light not being on may be a liability for the town so they better get it fixed.
As far a traction goes, Polliwog has a good idea. A five gallon pail with stone dust and sand is good for grip too.
