We scouted yesterday morning checking out various areas of the Bay of Quinte that had safe enough ice to venture out on. Most areas that we checked were not quite there yet with only 1 to 2 inches. We found a place that had more and we figured that there should be fish there, but didn't have time to actually drop a line.

Today we headed out at first light on the hunt. We were on 4.5 to 5" of hard black ice. Within a few minutes we began to mark some fish but we had to figure them out as they were not aggressive. It didn't take too long to crack the code and we started chipping away at them. They were short biting and stealing a lot of minnows. A few fish were lost and one break off, but we ended up with a successful morning and were off the ice around 10:00am.

Do many people fish the eyes at night during hardwater? I find it interesting because over at the mud bay area near cape vincent guys wont even go out until right before dark. They are both Lake Ontario wallys. Just curious, nice fish Jeff

Nice job Jeff, I can't wait to get out there. There is still no safe ice Simcoe, waiting for reports from buddy on Georgian Bay.

Very nice fishes...i'll be heading out myself probably tomorrow.
I did send you guys an email about a week ago asking you about the kind of heaters you were using last year when we booked with you. The red one...what brand? and where would you suggest buying one?

Love it Jeff. I went out on the ice in front of my house 2 days ago but the 1&1/2 - 2" of ice made me reconsider that. Checked it this morning and we have 3&1/2". Great to see some quality eye's being caught down your way.

congrtas on the fish, was wonwering about the ice. Where abouts is it safe. off for the next two weeks. sounds like i could get busy.
