Quinte Fishing

Fished saturday 11:30 - 4:30 in Picton Bay by the ferry. Had 4 fish: 1 - 14 lbs, 1 - 13 lbs, 1 - 11.5 lbs, 1 - 11 lbs! Lost 2 at Thompson's. Photo's to be posted tomorrow night (I'm at a friend's place and can't unload my photo's from here.) The weather was amazing today! I may be wrong, but I don't think Ted Takasaki ever had a 49 lb four fish limit. Quinte is a world class fishery! Sorry about the bragging but can't help myself

Well done Ken. Quite a haul. A big CONGRATS. What were they hitting on? I was out Saturday too and did OK. 5 fish for a total weight of 44 lbs, 4 of them from Adolphus Reach. All caught between 1:30 and 4:30 and hit on Fingerlings. Lost 4.

2 on Blue Fox High Back Minnow, 2 on a Frenzy 4" both in Firetiger with 1 1/2 ouce snap weights in 60 - 70 ft of water. Sorry, both were not caught by me. 2 were mine the 13 and 11.5 and my friend Jerry had the 14 and 11. Were you in the black Lund Baffish? Will be back out in the morning.

Thx. Ken for the info on lure use. Obvously a lot of different options catch fish when they are hungry. No I was in a grey/blue trim 165 Legend Sportfish with 40 Merc. with a big salmon net reaching for the sky......Dad's Affair is my radio handle. I caught 4 long lining and 1 on a inline planer board.....Barry

The first fish of the day was this 11.5 lber



Then came Jerry's 14 lber



next up was Jerry's 11 lber



Finally, my 13 lber which was only 29 inches but had an incredible 20 inch girth! Jerry was also fired as my photographer due to this photo for obvious reasons. Does anyone know where I can have a fibreglass replica made?



Sunday we were skunked! Mind you Jerry had two really hard hits, one of them broke 2 of the hooks off of one of his trebles on his brand new Berkley Frenzy! Just shows how fickle the fish can be. You can go from hero to zero at the drop of a hat! Fatman and the boys from Perfect Vue followed us to the area by the ferry and had 3 - 9.9, 9.5 & 8.8. V-man's wife had an 8 lber. There were quite a few hard hits & misses from these guys as well. All in all an amazing weekend. My trim died on me when we pulled the boat out so next weekend may be tricky unless I can fix it. Hope to be out next weekend in any case with Jerry's smaller boat if we can't fix mine.

I was out on Sunday and did alright.

I boated a 12.2, 11.7 and then another 12.2.

It's only begun - the Fall season is upon us now!

Ken, How much lead between the snap weight and the lures?? And did you experiment with the same lures without the snap weights??

we had about 10 feet between the weights and the lures. I tried without the weights for a bit but being the impatient guy that I am, quickly abandoned that idea (the line wouldn't leave my reel fast enough!). Thanks to Mike for idea about using snapweights!

I must apologize about sounding really cocky in the first post in this thread. In no way am I trying to compare myself to Ted Takasaki, I was just drunk with emotion (and just plain drunk) at the time of the writing Anyways, hope to be able to give 'er one last go this weekend. Tight lines all

Ken & Jo,

one of the best Taxidermists that specializes in replicas is "Advanced Taxidermy" in Toronto. I, personally, have never had one made, but a close friend of mine has had four made by them. They are the best replicas that I have ever seen, and I think they have a lifetime warranty. They always advertise at the Sportsmen's Show - they are the ones with the world record pike in the wooden/glass cabinet. Pretty amazing. They are a little more expensive than the guy who works out of his basement, and the waiting list is about 9 months, but the quality of their replicas is second to none.
