8 dozen minnows, 6 propane tanks, numerous trips out since the start of the season and I finally iced my first walleye of the year!! Not a monster, about 2lbs but still a walleye. Very aggressive little buggar too, watched him on the camera come from nowhere and took a swipe and missed, spun around for a second attempt and wham! He was not letting that perch have it. lol Numerous jumbo perch down there at the time. Was playing with them when he came in.

I think i have figured it out now, play with the perch, and the eyes will come. Did it again and sure enough, in came a nice one, she sat beside my lure but would not take it. A perch snuck up from behind and grabbed my minnow and she swam away. The trick is to jig just before the perch is going to grab it, this stirs up the bottom, pisses off the perch, they get aggressive and then in comes a curious walleye!!

This is NOT a fish story either!! It really happened!!

25 years ago we didn't have cell phones , so nobody could reach you, ie: work, the wife and kids. lol
So going fishing with your buddies was a nice day away from all that, and catching the odd fish was a nice bonus.
Now I even leave the cell turned on.
How times change. And we seem to have to work harder for that fish,
But still worth it.

Good luck the rest of hardwater season, and be safe.

Leo.
