There was a longer version of this story but ... it was lost when the web page expired so this will have to do ...

Captainminnow and myself took our fishing buddy Jagers to the Bay of Quinte for our 2nd annual ice fishing expedition! Concerned about ice safety and wanting to have the most successful experience we could in the time that we had we booked Friday afternoon-night with the Hawg Hunter and fished his territory Big Bay! While we fished hard we did not catch or mark any fish! Saturday we booked with G2 for the guided ice package (having all of our own gear) to fish their home waters (Long Reach). We met Grant at 7:00 and he took us to the area they had been working successfully. They set us up in deeper water beyond their "Clam Settlement" and we fished the sh_t out of that place! The boys (in their cozy hut) managed to mark a few fish and landed 3 walleye (2 less than 2lbs) and one just over marking Jagers first and personal best! walleye through the ice! I jigged outside for the better part of the day and marked very little. I was graciously offered one of G2's one man huts during the worst of the wind while they were preparing a fish fry for the group! We opted to stay out and keep fishing and I managed to land a 10" and a 12" ... the first was taken on a lipless crankbait and proved to Captainminnow that the "System" works! Fast forward ....
Sunday morning we head out to Huff's access with confidence in the ice and ourselves ... after trying one spot for about an hour with no luck ... we headed out to the area that we found last year and we were not dissappointed ... 3.5-4 inches of solid black ice and a stable pressure crack... we marked fish within the first 10 minutes and had a flurry of activity for the remainder of the morning bite! Having hooked up with Jagers fishing buddy (we'll call him Bluegill Guy) ... they ventured into shore and tried for some perch and manged to nail LOTS of jumbos! ... During the evening bite ... Phil managed to ice his new PB 12lber ... the girth on this fish was freakishly bloated-a true hog! we all hooked fish, lost fish and landed fish ... all year classes from 2lbers right up into the double digits! We decided that we were all "sick" Monday and stayed over to fish one more time! Back out before light ... we hit it hard again ... marked a riduculous amount of fish! (like we were on a highway), hooked landed and lost many! I managed to beat my PB from last year with a 10lb beast. Jagers had a short lived encounter with a true leviathan and has forever been ruined for ice fishing anywhere else! Captainminnow was truly the hot rod this weekend going 14 for 18, Jagers went 6 for 13 and I struggled with 5 for 9! The lures of choice ... by far #1 Jigging Raps (tipped with minnow) ... then followed by an assortment of Rattlin Buckshot, Fire-eye Minnow (tipped with Gulp) and Puppet Minnow

What can we say about the Bay of Quinte ... quite simply awesome!

Nicely put to say the least buddy! what a blast this weekend has been. Both ups and downs but by far the most memerable are the ups. I'm already counting down the days till next year. By the way Jaggers I hope your thumb heals after lipping my 7lber out of the hole you dumb@ss. Dave thanks for going up to your elbow in an attempt to land another fish for me. I may have had the hot rod but you guys definately came through for me by leaving your hole while fish were on your electronics to help land fish on for me.

Your post is the reason why I am not a guide. Love the idea of giving new anglers tips, but revealing the spots and techniques of G2 all over the net I am not a fan of.
Awsome day though.

Perchkind. In regards to your comment about us giving away G2's hot spots and techniques, this was not our intention at all. In fact we have the exact waypoint for their location which we could have put up and believe me long reach is big water so don't be fooled. Sunday and Monday we still fished in long reach and were well out of sight of there location. G2 does have some good techniques that have definately proven themselves to work but there are so many successfull techniques that work. Every person that we talked with on the ice uses "their" favorite baits and techniques that have worked for them. Hodgey and Grant of G2 angling have always been willing to offer up ideas and techniques if you just contact them.

In response to Len's comment about the pictures ... thanks! while I can take no credit for the photography you now know why we brought Jaggers ... and it certainly wasnt for his looks(image 0499-1)! He is new to ice fishing (now completely addicted) but he has long been our camera "biatch" for various flyfishing outings ... and he can be pretty funny if he gets enough sleep ... :).

Sorry guys, I guess I was cranky yesterday, and not a great way to introduce myself to the board. We are all entitled to voice our opinions, I know that is big water and fish are biting everywhere in all depths and eating everything so my opinion is irrelevant. Just trying to look out for the Guides thats all. Gotta keep them employed you know.
