replica mount

I'm condisering getting one of my recent catches replicated. Catch and Release Taxidermy out of Napanee is one of my considerations as is Advanced Taxidermy in TO. Just doing some comparison shopping before I make the plunge. Aside from the $$$ issue, I'd welcome your thoughts on the workmanship from either of these two. I have seen Advanced replicas and was over to Catch and Release this afternoon, however, they have only a few finished fish in stock.

I was thinking of using C & R Taxidermy as well. How did their mounts look? The guy quoted me about $495 including shipping and taxes which isn't too bad. I'm not sure about Advanced, but I heard they were the best but you had to pay quite a bit more for them. The other thing was the wait time from C & R was only 3 months vs. I believe 12 (?) months.

A while back I had heard that C & R Taxidermy was doing a lot for BassPro Shops in US. If that could be confirmed, This might a sign of the quality of their work.

Advanced Taxidermy is spectacular but who need a coffee table with fish in it? Their cost and wait may not be worth the wait.

I do know that a replica if ever broken can be fixed, NOT a skin mount.

Thanks for the input. The worksmanship seemed fine to me. He had a pair of giant crappies under a pedestal glass display that were superb. He also has a mount of the world record walleye which would just dwarf my "puny" 15 lb and change catch. I'm thinking of spending a little more and getting a table top mount which would have a simulated lake bottom display. Looks super, it even comes with a bib (so that onlookers don't dribble on the view)

I recently ordered a replica mount from advanced taxedermy for a 16.6 lber. They charge $17 an inch for the mount. They send you a catologue with mount ideas, coffee tables are an option but a standard wood background is also an option. I can't comment on the other place but advanced is considered to be the best, the mouth will be open with teeth and esophagus displayed, gilles will be flared and they look real, including dorcal fins displayed. I have seen there work and it is incredible. You may pay more but in my experience is you get what you pay for!

I just went to C & R's site and noticed there is a replica mount for 38 inch walleye with 23 inch girth. A fish like that would be close to 20 pounds I figure. That's a monster walleye.

There are a few websites with various formulas for estimating the weight of a fish based on length and girth. According to these Formulas a 38" x 23" walleye would weigh anywhere from 22.3 to 25.1 lbs which would be a new Canadian record or world record. I would love to see a picture of that! Too bad they didn't get it officially weighed!!

That particular fish is the world record fish based on the dimensions provided. That's what replica mounts are. Any one can have one, so if you wish a copy for yourself, cough up the spondulics and voila instant world record on display at your house. Would have liked to have been on the water today but decided that it was winterizing time. Time for hardwater fishing.[/b]

Finally remembered my password. (Dan as other posters have noted, the link to reestablishing a new password is not working). My first fish being mounted after over 30 years, so my wife convinced me that Advanced Taxidermy would be worth the extra expense and wait. The decision is a table top mount not too dissimilar from this one http://advancedtaxidermy.com/. Hopefully completed for next Xmas.

The replicas at advanced do not have to have anything to do with tables or tabletops. They can be any mount you would like. Speaking of mounts. Did you here the one about the guy who had two pet monkeys die. He wanted to remember them so he went to the taxidermy. The taxidermist asked him. Would you like them mounted? the guy replied. No shaking hands would be just fine. thanks. I hope you enjoy your fish mount as well as i did. The extra money was worth it. Ive had bass musky and laketrout done there.

I used Advanced taxidermy about 4 years ago on a 1.59 lbs perch and it turned out great. Only good stuff to say about them. I paid $230 for my little mount.

if yor're interested in going for a drive and maybe save some money,try calling LARRY'S taxedermy over near lindsay,ont.
he has quite a showroom for you to see his workmanship.did a skin mount of a 50in ski last year for my cousin,looked beautiful,even thow he should have let it go
