I know I know, when you see the title you expect to see that HUGE pike picture that has been floating around every fishing forum and has been caught in every lake in the world. I assure you this one isnt as big and it's real. Pete (mr walleye) and I were trolling fair haven NY on wednesday and this gator grabbed a stickbait. We had 8 lb test and no leader since we were brown trout fishing , the stickbait was so deep into its mouth that I'm surprised we got it since it would only take the line touching a tooth under that pressure. We knew it wasnt a brown trout right away, but I was expecting maybe a walleye. I had a scale but the battery was dead from winter so we dont know exact weight or length but it was big. I'll leave the guessing up to you.

That is a big ole pike. Alot of guys snub their noses at pike but I likem. It was a pike that hooked me for life on fishing when I was a kid. Use to go up to this summer camp in Parry Sound where my parents would do some volunteer work and since I wasnt there as a camper i'd bring a buddy and we would fish all day. the lake was no bigger than a 1/2 mile across at the widest spot and we had a 10 ft. flat bottom row boat. We took turns rowing while we trolled. I end up catching this big pike that to me at the time was a behemouth of a fish. We didnt have a net and it was quite a job getting it into our little boat. Once it hit the floor and started flopping around it knocked my open tackle box spilling everything on the floor. My buddy rowed the boat to shore and my mom took us to the postofiice where they weighed it. 18.5 lbs and took 15th place in the old "Molsons Big Fish" contest. Mounted the fish and still have it on my wall in the basement. Its pretty beat up now, fins chewed from the cats, tail bent and dust covered on the back. Wife wants to through it out but I wont let her.

Dan, that is a great story.

Folks will recondition skin mounts, and will make them look like new again.

I'm the anti-replica guy. not that i dont like them, but if it's a true trophy, there is nothing wrong with a skin mount. Skin mounts got a bad rep cause of the way folks leave them...

I've seen 20 year old skin mounts that look like they were caught yesterday.

Great story Dan!
