Caught a 15 plus pound sheephead of last Thursday, just wondering if that is considered a large one or if that is common? : :?: I had never even seen one till last week.

Congrats!

Looks like 21 + is the record. Baygirl caught an 8 lber that felt like she caught the bottom of the bay.

Great fun. Not great eating...

bayboy.

Thats a good one. Lots of fun and good action when the walleye bite is tough! Ive had luck alot in the summer on erie dearies and 5-7lber are more common then anything. Have caught alot of 10-17lbers but that 21.5 lb was unreal..... I had one on the summer prior that prolly would have been around the same if not bigger but lost it at the boat after many attempts to get it close enough to net. Very neat fish and I still remember my first big fish I caught when I was younger and it was a 8lb sheephead, and I ate it, I think it matters who cookes the fish not the fish thats being cooked, my grandfather can make some mean azz fish!!! Not as good as walleye, alot of work to clean but a nice small 2-3lb drum is not bad if cooked properly. Many people come here to target them, we have a great fishery for them but I remember few years ago there was a huge die off and drum were floating everywhere. What did you catch it on if you dont mind me asking?

Hey Marty, What is the best area to focus on if I want to catch a bunch of these. I have a buddy that just started fishing and has only fished with a hook and worm for pan fish. Would be great to get him into a bunch of these.

Big Bay usually holds quite a few, also do well this time of year near snake island and mass pt.

I saw a bunch of Sheepies today feeding in 4-8 foot of water on the rocks (massassauga point and horse point). We caught a couple casting cranks though I am sure there is a more effective method to catching them. Make sure when releasing to first trim your motor all the way up and throw them directly at the propeller :)
