Nice fish Mike, I'm back in St John trying for Stripers again. Out once, rented a pontoon boat had 1 one lost it, my reel exploded. The bail broke but the local tackle shop (Dorion's fixed it for free) Going to give it a try this week again. Wishing you were here. Later. BigGene

not a lot of guys here eat them, but you certainly can.

I always find it ironic that everyone here thinks Drum are "junk fish" while there is an entire professional tour dedicated to "Red fish" which are "saltwater drum" so basically the same thing as our "sheephead" or "freshwater drum". Granted most saltwater fish are better eating then their freshwater counter parts, but drum are not that bad. I think it is just because everyone here is after walleye that if it is any but walleye its "junk". I did eat a drum about 10 years ago just to try it, and it was fine. I remember thinking it was comparable to walleye. Fairly mild, but flakey if my memory serves me right.

their massive, and they throw a pretty damn good fight. Fought one for 5 min the other night. They wouldnt stop biting, we were into the walleye as well, but would hit these. We ended up leaving the area at Telegraph to get away from them.

Got a bunch of nice perch though, and they were mighty tasty for lunch today!

Fun to fight! Pain in the butt to try to clean a Drum, very boney and not worth the hassle when a 18" walleye is much tastier! But Id rather catch big Drum all day long, very good work out and good practise for fighting other big fish. That fish I caught last week fought for around 5 minutes as well, the record caught few falls back fought for at least 30.

love getting them on the boards. I run the mini offshore boards mosta the time and when a sheepy hits they (planer boards) jump out of the water about 3-4 ft :D love it!
