If anyone has the structure scan for the Lowrance HDS units can they PM me with your opinion on it. I'm looking at buying a unit but want some feedback before. I spoke with Maverick and got some great info. Just looking for additional opinions.

StructureScan™ Hump
by Sheldon Hatch on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 8:01pm
I have spent many years fishing a local lake and have a few spots that always seem to hold walleye. I often use an underwater camera to check locations to see why fish hold in one area over another. Later this fall Lowrance will be releasing StructureScan™ for their HDS units and as a Pro-Staff member I have spent time on the water testing the new features on the HDS.

StructureScan™ - You can see the metal structure to the left.

I pulled up to an area on my local lake whereI have always fished with lots of rocks and on the first pass I was shocked what I seen to the left of the boat. It is an old bridge or tower and the base. The metal frame is 80 feet long when using the measure feature of StructureScan. I made a few passes and lined the boat up so I could do a direct run over the area with the DownScan to get an idea of what was directly below the boat. I now know why so many walleye hold in this area with all the hiding spots for ambushing bait fish.

DownScan -You can see how the metal structure is broken an laying down in a valley.

This new tool is really going to save some time on the water as I will no longer need to carry my under water camera in the boat and it is simple to use as it works right out of the box with no fine tuning - real plug and play technology. The downscan really shows what is directly below the boat and will help every angler understand what their regular sonar is showing. The above image also explains why I have lost so many jigs over the years in this same spot.

I installed it this past spring and have used it alot on lake ont. I have found it has been more useful in deeper 8'>than shallower water.
