Well me and my friend managed to succesfully secure a boat from Kevin at Merland Park and make it out on the water.
Got on the water around 8am and headed straight to the Glenora Ferry. Started trolling just before the green buoy east of the Ferry with Manns 20s - Dr. Death, Firetiger and Wonderbread. After 5 mins first fish was hooked and was being faught, then we hooked a second. Successfully landed both, 2 big females one just over 30" and the other around 27" if my memory serves me correct. Both returned safe and sound.
Since it was rather windy we continued the drift and caught two more both around the 30" mark again. 1 female was kept and the other returned.
My friend could not believe what he was seeing and catching as it was his first time out walleye fishing. Had to tell him that many people fish a lifetime to catch walleye like these.
Continued to troll and dirft around the Ferry area with not much luck till mid-afternoon. We were marking tons of fish. There were a few other people on the water but not as many as I expected. Looks like we were the only ones catching fish. It got really windy with chinook like gusts. The wind suddenly died in the late afternoon. Then the fishing turned on again. Caught and release several other 'eyes all on the Manns 20s again. I don't remember all exact sizes but they were all around the 30" mark.
By end of of the day my friend took 1 female, and I took a 27" male and an 18.6" male.
It was a great way to start off the New Year and looking forward to hardwater season.
I would like to say thanks to Kevin and his wife at Merland Park. They've got a great facility and are truely great people. If you're ever looking for a place to stay or to rent give them a call.
