I voted other because I have a couple of magnum Walley Divers that do very well.

In fact they will out fish my reef runners and manns most days.

for those who dont know how to tune a reef runner, ALWAYS check them even new out of the package. If your bait running right, take a pair of needle nose and slightly bend the eye left. IF bait run s left bend the eye slightly right, set it back in the water and re-check it.

I went Rapala ......... reef runner is a good lure but keeping them tuned is a real hassle whats up with that anyways ?? one fish you have to re tune it,,, they never seem tuned out of the box and sometimes just changing speeds make it run differently too fast it seems to loose the action. too slow you cant get it down without weights, but man they do make alot of color opptions thats something you dont find with repala . i think this year im gonna try dynomite in Landsharks prop wash *Grin*

I like the tail dancer perch colour. I have read that purple, pink, and perch are good colours. What colours do you guys find works best?

I like purples and blues, but there are days when perch and other more natural colours like greys and silvers work very well.

Well this was a tough question as it depends on the body of water...but considering this is on QuinteFishing.com I would have to say Reef Runner 800. Main reason is in a slow troll the bait kicks-out and hunts for bites with an irresistible roll walleye just can't refuse. I am not big on colour with cranks as that is the bottom of my list, as I focus on depth, action/vibration, speed and then colour comes into play.

I had to go with reef runner 800's. Looking forward to fishing the sebile 118's a little more this fall. They should be a killer on quinte.

I have to agree with Sheldon, location, depth, and speed are more important then colour. As to catch fish you have to fishing where the fish are first and foremost. But, once you have location, depth and speed down, I like purples, and pinks.

An article from a few years ago...

Tuning your crank-baits
By Sheldon Hatch
With all the action on the Bay of Quinte it is a good time to offer a trolling tip. I have watched many anglers set-up beside me during a trolling run and not catch a single fish while my boat landed a few on every pass.
When trolling deep diving cranks with the wind in big waves, the in-line planer boards add a tantalizing racing away and pause action to crank-baits. This action can make walleye strike on days when nothing else will work. The problem is if your crank-baits are not tuned, they will kick-out or roll on the quick increase in speed. If the bait does not run straight you will not catch fish.

Tuning is very simple. Once you have the boat at trolling speed run your cranks at the side of the boat to see if they are in tune. Grab your needle nose pliers to slightly bend the eyelet of the crank in the opposite direction in which the crank-bait runs out of tune. Note do not twist or rotate the eyelet! Bend left or right. If the bait runs or rolls out to the left, bend the eyelet to the right. If the bait runs or rolls out to the right, bend the eyelet to the left.

Now the next step is tuning the bait for faster speeds. While giving the rod a quick sweep forward as the bait is running boat side, observe if the bait kicks out. During the forward sweep the bait should track and dive straight while following the rod tip. To increase your hook-up results and maximum diving depth, get into the habit of tuning your crank-baits at boat side.

Now go catch some fish with those cranky crank-baits.

Sheldon could you elaborate, on the bending? I am a little confused on your method of bending. Looking at your top view pic, do you roll the whole eye left? or do you give a little tweak so that the part of the eye towards the bait would go a lil right while the part of the eye furthest on the lip would go a little left?

Make sure you have both the front and back of the eye in the pliers and then roll/bend the eye to the left or right a very small amount. Never twist/turn the eye as it will take some serious tweaking to get that bait to run straight again.

If anyone notices me on the water this fall or at the ramp just ask me how I tune my cranks I will quickly show you how. Also reef runner has a tuning tool that makes it a bit easier. I tune most every crank as sometimes you also want them a little out of tune to mimmic wounded bait fish etc.
