I’m familiar with dipsy divers, but would like to know what type of lures people use with them. Do you use things like spoons and shallow minnow type lures that create less drag in the water? Or can you in fact use a deep diving crank bait to get them a little deeper?

I’ve never used one and am just debating whether or not to purchase one.

Thanks for you help.

mainly used with stick baits an spoons, but you can use them to get deep divers deeper, but youll have absoloutly no idea what depth theyre running at.

I've never used them either. I've noticed at Cdn Tire they have two sizes, what size would you recommend for the bay or the reach?

I like the size 0 dipsy's. I actually prefer the Walker deeper divers over dipsys. They runner smoother and release better. Just preference and to each his own. I like the 82mm and 107mm deeper divers.

I run stick baits, and smaller body baits behind them. If you want to get deeper diving crank baits deeper then use snap weights or torpedo divers to do that, not dipsy's.

Deep diving crankbaits can change the angle on the diver and make them not run properly you need to use lures with less pull specialy when using the smaller size of divers

besides how much more depth are you going to get on a rod length leader behind a dipsy?

Deep diving cranks will cause a dipsey to run more shallower than with just a stick bait or spoon. I like divers because the surface weeds will not affect the lure. The weeds collect at the diver.

Here is something to try on a slow day. #1 Jensen with a mag ring set on 3 1/2 or a bit more. A Big Jon mini snubber between the braid or wire and the diver. The rig will surge on outside turns. This rig will not only cover more depths of water but the surging will produce that great action of a crippled bait fish.

Al
