We joined everyone on Saturday from Ottawa to try our luck. Shepherd and I headed out from Picton Harbour and started trolling east of the ferry and criss crossed our way right out to the gut and part way back. We certainly weren't having the luck everyone else seemed to be having. Although we did try washing dozens of lures different depths, speeds etc etc. By the time we decided we had had enough and head for home, the infamous SS Minnow let us down. Solenoid on the starter fried and there we were adrift, after a few failed attempts to start it, got on the phone made a few calls to Scott (West Lake) and very shortly, Sheldon Hatch & John & Paul came to the rescue towed us to Prinyers, Paul (Grateful Fisher) gave me a lift back to Picton to get the truck and trailer.
I want to Thank everyone again involved in getting us off the water. It just goes to show you that some people are ready, willing and able to help a guy out when he's stranded.

A couple of pic's, one of Shepherds catch and one of the rescue mission taking place.

Gene,
Glad to see you had help and made it back in safely. Did you try putting out the boards and trolling while you were being towed? :P

I have had guys in my chute before while trolling, but that was ridiculous.

Glad to help Gene, BTW the GPS Long and Lat sure made the rescue easy.

wow, when i picture this in my head, i see my self out at main duck and the waves starting to pick up, so i go to start my motor and it doesnt start ? i would be screwed, i have no one to call, only a 80 pound thrust trolling motor to battle 5 foot plus waves and a 20 mile or so trip to nearest shore. dam, scary thought. i think some one needs to start a emergeny boat towing service. i know there is one in wellington, i have the business card in my salmon tackle box.

Great group of guys in Quinte to help out a stranded angler! I'm glad I've got a 9.9 kicker just in case the bigger engine poops out. Good insurance on the big lake.

Grizz you may be right! Funny thing is took the Minn Kota off & batteries out to lighten up the front end for the big water to come. Economics dictate that a kicker will have to wait till next spring. I replaced almost every piece in this boat except for the starter & alternator which were virtually brand new, the previous owner thought the starter was gone and replaced it when the boat wouldn't start. In reality the motor had a broken crank in it, that's why I never bothered changing it out. The alternator will be replaced very soon also.

Sheldon was moving too fast for us to get the lines going!

Fireball,
The other thing about being stranded at the ducks is the cell service, to call for a tow, is very sketchy. I dont have a vhs radio and have often thought I should get one. Best to head into the harbour there and stay the night.

I was lucky that the cell service was good, but I do have VHF, and there was a boat within view and I do have lots of flashlights and a dozen flares aboard.
