thats pretty intresting really what I dont understand is the HUNTER Numbers..... how do they know how many hunters there are in one single unit/area.... is that how you buy a licens up here? like you have to buy a licens for an area ? or does your licens cover all of ontario ?? I know in NY you have to apply for a doe tag in a area but your buck tag can be filled anyplace in the state, In NY they just have a call center where you report your harvest so they can gather numbers seems confusing to me I have so much to learn since I plan to move up here soon. I get a feeling its going to be hard for me to find a good place to archery hunt... do you guys have to take yourr deer to a check station after the kill? I am amazed at how few hunters you really have for such a big area and still have so few deer compaired to some states in NY when you take any given year and add all the units together on that list you still fall well short in numbers killed in just one county In NY 2008 Deer Take by County County Number of Deer Bucks per Square Mile 2007 2008 2007 2008 Bucks Total Bucks Total ALBANY 865 1,862 933 1,691 1.6 1.7 ALLEGANY 4,660 10,768 4,394 9,355 4.5 4.2 BROOME 1,624 3,505 1,573 3,464 2.3 2.2 CATTARAUGUS 4,470 9,934 3,871 9,284 3.5 3 CAYUGA 2,075 5,079 2,192 5,449 2.9 3.1 CHAUTAUQUA 3,640 8,765 3,176 7,664 3.4 3 CHEMUNG 1,441 2,967 1,401 3,222 3.5 3.4 CHENANGO 2,815 5,242 2,991 6,169 3.1 3.3 CLINTON 782 1,065 796 1,021 0.7 0.7 COLUMBIA 1,830 3,078 1,863 3,524 2.8 2.9 CORTLAND 1,155 2,435 1,171 2,682 2.3 2.3 DELAWARE 3,399 4,995 4,045 6,184 2.3 2.7 DUTCHESS 2,046 4,092 2,171 4,481 2.5 2.7 ERIE 2,970 6,359 2,714 6,203 3.6 3.2 ESSEX 1,192 1,613 1,244 1,578 0.6 0.7 FRANKLIN 1,505 2,313 1,398 2,090 0.9 0.8 FULTON 688 1,142 714 1,209 1.3 1.4 GENESEE 1,716 4,665 1,651 4,572 3.5 3.4 GREENE 1,244 1,923 1,291 2,144 1.9 1.9 HAMILTON 964 1,185 1,289 1,444 0.6 0.7 HERKIMER 1,818 3,004 1,997 3,145 1.3 1.4 JEFFERSON 3,215 6,734 3,322 7,308 2.5 2.5 LEWIS 2,331 3,629 2,369 3,813 1.8 1.8 LIVINGSTON 2,246 5,780 2,172 5,859 3.5 3.4 MADISON 1,579 3,291 1,813 3,968 2.4 2.7 MONROE 1,803 4,965 1,762 4,616 2.7 2.7 MONTGOMERY 542 949 558 1,013 1.3 1.3 NIAGARA 1,019 2,525 1,036 2,311 2 2 ONEIDA 2,282 3,948 2,431 4,432 1.9 2 ONONDAGA 1,776 4,050 1,829 4,279 2.2 2.3 ONTARIO 2,257 6,302 2,218 5,811 3.5 3.4 ORANGE 2,928 6,653 3,166 7,371 3.5 3.8 ORLEANS 1,084 2,972 1,018 2,872 2.7 2.6 OSWEGO 1,912 3,367 2,349 4,347 2 2.4 OTSEGO 2,603 4,682 2,909 5,288 2.6 2.9 PUTNAM 603 1,078 604 1,263 2.6 2.6 RENSSELAER 1,169 1,763 1,413 1,951 1.7 2.1 ROCKLAND 150 283 151 261 0.9 0.9 SARATOGA 1,193 2,140 1,201 2,246 1.5 1.5 SCHENECTADY 229 438 296 508 1.1 1.4 SCHOHARIE 1,483 2,750 1,522 2,660 2.4 2.4 SCHUYLER 1,023 2,258 1,006 2,308 3.1 3 SENECA 792 1,831 780 1,636 2.3 2.3 ST LAWRENCE 4,193 7,051 4,241 7,146 1.5 1.5 STEUBEN 5,657 12,796 5,326 13,572 4 3.7 SUFFOLK 781 2,159 805 2,528 0.9 0.9 SULLIVAN 2,271 4,252 2,259 4,439 2.3 2.3 TIOGA 1,951 4,603 1,812 4,378 3.7 3.4 TOMPKINS 1,853 4,608 1,820 4,397 3.8 3.7 ULSTER 1,805 3,877 1,783 3,701 1.6 1.6 WARREN 637 881 722 922 0.7 0.8 WASHINGTON 1,909 3,404 2,068 3,450 2.3 2.5 WAYNE 1,748 5,101 1,711 4,488 2.9 2.8 WESTCHESTER 654 1,904 609 1,740 1.5 1.4 WYOMING 2,388 5,750 2,216 5,179 4 3.7 YATES 1,486 4,376 1,575 4,343 4.3 4.6 TOTALS 104,451 219,141 105,747 222,979
