I'm looking at buying a 2001 ALUMACRAFT V16 LUNKER MAG SERIES/irss.
Has anyone had any experience with this manufacturer of boats?

i think (after doing lots of homework) thats a fair price.

my two cents is that you should find out who used the boat and what it was used for. You need to get under it too.That particluar model is fine fishability wise. The alumacraft i owned (a 94) was great but didn't hold up-after awhile, screws would vibrate out, stuff like thtat. My advice would be to buy a Crestliner or Lund

well, thats what i'm looking for...

theres no way i can afford a lund or a crestliner...they are over 10 grand for a simple 16 footer.

i have about 7 grand max to spend.

Try looking at the NADAguides.com site,it will give you a starting point to go on,one potential problem is the roller trailer,their not good for aluminum boats because of rivets loosening at the roller positions. Good luck.

so the spartan trailer isn't good on the boat?

It doesnt look like a bad unit, however I have to agree about the trailer. What size motor is coming on the boat and have you looked at the princecraft.

Steve, I own a 1999 16ft Alumacraft Lunker just like that with a 30HP Merc (tiller) and it has been wonderful. The screws in the deck do vibrate loose once in the while, but I just keep a screw driver in my tackle box and tighten them every once in the while. No other problems and I have used it a lot. My trailer isn't a roll off.

i'm starting to think i'm going to wait a month or two, i dont wanna drive to Nestor Falls Ontario (26 hours from Hamilton Ontario) in the winter.

That depends on the condition (it looks like the carpet is pretty used) and how much it is worth to you to have the 4 stroke motor. When I bought mine new, I paid a little over $7000 US ($9000 Can) with a 30HP 2 stroke, but I know they loose their value fast and have seen similar boats with a 25HP new for a lot less. The price is probably ok, but not great.
Another thing I should point out is that the platform on this boat is quite small compared to other similar boats if you are going to be fishing from it a lot. I use mine mostly for trolling and like the extra space on the lower level. Good Luck!

Looking at this boat it doesn't appear to
be a heavy boat. As long as the rollers
are adjusted correctly and you don't drive
the boat onto the trailer you should be ok.

I have a full size aluminum boat with a bunk
trailer. Bunks are generally best all around
for support, weight distrubution and ability to
allow you to drive the boat onto the trailer.
