Was at Deseronto Saturday, people around us catchin some nice fish but we couldn't seem to get one to even bite. Anyone got any suggestions. Tryed a variance of different lures with nice lively minnows but no luck. Haven't caught a Walleye in the bay since 98. HELP.

What pound test line are you using? This could be all the difference
with the great improvement in water clarity.

Sorry to here of your bad luck this weekend I was out on Sat for a drive & Sun for a fish also at Deseronto. From what I seen and to those I talked to the fish were not out in the big water, or were not biteing. We had some luck in Mohawk bay the bigest around 11 pounds. We were useing a variety of lures and colours but silver blue cleo,s and champs worked for me on Sunday as well as last Wed.Talked to game warden around noon he told us most of the guys further back in the bay were doing well, silver-red seemed to be the colour for them. There out there lots of fish being marked, need a little warm spell to wake them up!! Hopefully your luck will change....

P.S. Hey Andrew did you get anymore after I left???

We were catching fish all week, had to work this weekend.Fishing in 22/25 feet of water. My brothers and me using light green or red Mr.Champs with two small minnows about 6" off bottom. We found using big minnows we had to put on stinger hooks,I pulled a couple to the hole all they had was the tail in there mouths and they were gone, thats why we went with stinger hooks.I found the big ones hit like a train and the little ones like playing cat and mouse. You really have to watch your line.I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies gents. So what type and pound test line do you suggest? I also was using a treble stinger hook, should I look at just a single hook? Anyone got any info on what I should try in the Trenton/Belleville areas. What seems to be your best strategy i.e. jig/fast or slow, still fish, jig heads or spoons? Good Luck to all and Thanks

Were you fishing for perch?

4lb test is pretty light to be jigging for walleye, must have been quite a struggle with that pig. I wonder if you're anywere near a line class record?

I usually fish in the niagara region, and the biggest walleye I've caught through the ice here was 4.5 pounds. I was just set up for small walleye action and didn't bother to change my line. It was a great fight, took about ten minutes to get it in. I wasn't trying to suggest that anyone use line that light. Anyway it was my first BOQ walleye, and my largest ever through the ice. Can't wait to get back there to try again.
