Well, folks,

Looks like the word is out on the discussion board. Everyone playing their cards tight to their vests.

I picked this off another board where someone was asking about ice and where etc in BoQ.

"Believe it or not there is a BOQ message board, but its not worth your time to try there. Nobody replies to anyone, and there are very few posts. Here's the link for what its worth.

Is the reputation that is being built about BoQ fishers??????

Don't get offended by what people are saying about us, try and change to promote the fishing here, there's lot of room and it would appear that there are lots of fish.

I am not a regular on BoQ by any means. I live in in the Guelph area make a couple trips down to BoQ each year.

I am headed down to BoQ next week for my first ice fishing trip there. I have received some great input from a couple of board members with help on location and advice. This was achieved through emailing member directly and not posting for replies.

It is hard to draw a line for some people because they are afraid of giving away too much information. I appreciate the guys who have helped me out and I will be glad to post upon my return. Of course I will not give away all details but keeping people informed is important.

I will be out on the water Sunday to Tuesday next week.

I would have to agree there is less activity on this board than others. We are all here to help each other and I do believe in keeping some info sacred.But in general questions of ice conditions and numbers of fish or even areas is helpful. You don`t have too give your exact gps point or anything. But come on guys the more info we share the more we all learn and I`d be willing to help anybody even on other lakes. I`ll be coming down on sunday and will be trying pt anne or massassauga pt and will definitly be posting our results. Any info on the ice conditions and whether or not you can run the atv`s around or not would be greatly appreciated.

It's too bad others are giving this site an undeserved knock. I have spent a lot of time observing the many conversation strings over the last 18 months. I jump on every day. Posts that go unanswered generally do so
because the knowledgeable membership is tired of responding to
repetitive questions. Answers are out there, just "fish around" for them in previous strings. I see it all the time, "what are they hitting on", "where are they biting?,blah blah blah. Some people are just to lazy to do anything else but post and sit back for an answer like this site is some BOQ response line complete with operators waiting.
I have gotten tons out of this site, by simple observation. I suggest others try doing the same.

the reference was to reports about ice fishing not open water fishing. there is a big difference IMO. i follow the board during winter purely out of interest as i dont ice fish and agree there is very little detail or info available compared to the fall when you can go on site any time and people do everything but help you launch your boat for you and tie the lure on. this was by far the busiest i've seen the bay in past several years and i attribute this mostly to the helpfulness of the good people on this board aided by the tech available of being able to post pics on other boards. I strongly disagree that there are lots of fish to the extent is seems as if there were lots of fish you would have found them everywhere throughout the bay this past fall. Instead the fish are congregating in specific areas which we are all honing in on and with better techs catching fish but I found the fish soon moved due in part to boat traffic after a few weeks. It won't take much to sig reduce the fish that are mostly in just a few rel small areas just as it seemed to be a few years ago. The remaining fish are now in areas that got little pressure in the past and this year the fishing was poor in the trad. areas, dont fool yourself into thinking the bay is full, if it was you could catch lots everywhere anyway which is far from the truth. most of the bay was empty of boats this past yr they were almost all around one area and even these fish got pushed and we had to follow them. i just wish some of us were more far sighted and looked at big picture., we were almost all suicidal a few yrs ago when they almost closed fishery. we need to respect the resource most of us enjoy so much.

I for one have enjoyed this forum from the time I joined, and I know alot of the regulars here, including myself, have passed this site on to others from other boards. Not only can this board be informative, but theres very little, if at all, bad talk going on, like some other boards I've been apart of. Alls I say is, keep up the good work everybody, and be safe on the ice.

I my self don't mind giving out info,but I find that some people want you to put them right on the hole where the fish are.I've been icefishing for over 15 years on the the BoQ.I wish there was a board like this when I started,I spent many of long cold days out jigging from Hay Bay to Trent River and got zip.I call it paying your dues,maybe I'm a little bitter sometimes when I read some post and the answer is just down below on another post.E-mails have come to me I've answered them the best I can,I feel if somebody e-mails me,they have put their best foot foward and deserve a answer.I have e-mailed a couple members and got answers. I've gone out on the ice,talked to guys if they are hitting,not once has anyone bulled me and I do the same.But info sometimes hurts,one day their I might be 8 guys next day 50 guys all around you,so sometimes loose lips sink ships.I guess when you live near a resource like ours it's hard to share,but share we do. :lol:

As a new member here, general info about conditions and catch that I find here should help alot. Live just off the south shore and try to get out a couple of times a week. Fished here all my life, when you couldn't find a Pickeral all summer (late 60's and early 70's), when you could't keep them off the hook and today when we all must work alot harder to find them. I fell that where all here for the same purpose, to help each other out, to suggest new ideas and areas (when our own brains freeze up), and brag about our good days. I believe that we all became members for the same purpose.

I feel I don’t get that many responses usually.

I'm not a local but my parents and sister have been living in the area for 15 years and I have been fishing there just as long. When I found this board I expected more help especially on fish other than the ‘All mighty Walleye”.

I had just recently posted asking about perch depth and the thickness of the ice in the bay. Even thou over 100 people viewed it, not one person shared any info. I don’t want spots on the spot , that takes away the adventure of finding new areas, all I wanted was info on what the perch activity is like, because I know you walleye guys end up catching perch by accident. I even saw posts after mine talking about catching perch and still no response.

I love the Bay of Quinte and I love coming to the board and reading what going on. The only drawback is that it seems to have a lot of people discussing, but usual only on walleye activity.

The lack of response doesn't suprise me. This board is far and away a walleye one. The bass guys dont want to tip their spots and there are not many who even fish for panfish. I have tried to get discussions going on other fish species over the years here with limited success. (There are alot of whitefish out there and on occasion, icefishing, I have caught a few but no one targets them).
I have also noticed this board has seasonal crowds on it. (fall, ice, spring/summer, and the regulars) With each season many get on the board and "Beg" for info but dont come back and post their reports. Some dont get the old proverb about "having to give a little to get a little". Many DO post their reports, excellent reports but as someone mentioned it tends to be the spring/summer and fall crowds. Not sure what it is about ice fisherman. Some of the regulars I talk with tell me they dont want to post in the winter because they see alot of meat eaters on the ice. Who knows
One thing that is very underused here is the search function. It is quite functional and I dont delete old posts.

Thanks for responding.

I understand the whole meat-eater reason, even though I catch and release, telling me things on the board , lets the cat out of the bag. Guess could add my email to the bottom of the message

I plan to take photos and post a report after the weekend on my adventures on the ice, the spot I'm going to I know doesn't have much ice fishing activity but that could be because there is no fish , well at least no walleye maybe.

Should be fun trying new water and seeing what works.

Superdad and Dan Elliot,

please don't immediately take this the wrong way, I am sure that you are both reasonable people, but I fail to understand why you expend so much energy trying to promote walleye fishing in the BOQ? With the huge number of complaints about fisherman keeping too many fish, using too much salt on boat ramps in the Fall, hot spots becoming overcrowded with 'new' fisherman, etc.. , I am curious to learn your motives. Does either of one you benefit (financially) from this promotion? Seems like a ton of work with no resulting personal rewards.

I myself find it highly unusual that someone would be critical of 2 people who bring nothing but good to this board and then sits at home gleaming off the very information they provide for his personal finanical gain while bringing absolutely nothing back worthwhile in return. If you don't like what goes on here,feel free not to read it. If I'm wrong, all Capt.Cranky supporters please stand up and be counted!
