Hey Gents,

Well, I haven’t reported much lately, just getting over the busy Christmas season. However, the boys and I have been fishing, and it’s been pretty good!!!

If you haven’t been out on the Bay, you should have….All the regular teams / guys are catching a wack load of fish, G2, Landshark, Grizz, even Fisherboy is getting in on the action (LOL). As you’ve seen on the board, the Walleye action is off to one of the earliest and BEST seasons so far, numbers and size, no complaints here.

Corey (letsgofishing), Johnny (Purpleghost) and I were out on Boxing Day and yesterday and managed 13 the 1st day and 23 the 2nd day… lot’s of 10+ fish and lots of 2 to 3lb eaters. With yesterday being so overcast we even managed to get pretty good numbers during the mid-day, when usually first and last light are prime-time. The baits that have worked well for us are usual suspects, Macho Minnow & Bucksot Rattle Spoon, with the new Northland Live Forage Fish Fry Minnow Spoon being a strong producer. Location is always key; we managed to stay on specific contours to keep the odds of cruising fish in our favor… this keeps us on fish more often than not. (Shallow first light, deeper mid-day and shallower last light)

One of the interesting things we have noticed, the number of guys out there NOT using flashers…Vex, H-Bird, Marcum….whatever, they ALL work well... But GET ONE!!!!!! (I use the H-Bird Ice 45). For those that are not familiar, pay attention!! Those of you who are familiar with them, you know what I mean

These machines have revolutionized the way we ice fish today, especially for walleye. Seeing a walleye on the screen, knowing the size, where it is and how it’s reacting to your bait is AMAZING and FUN. One of the techniques that work SOOO well for us is to lift that walleye up off the bottom, as soon as you see it. Even when they are not interested in the bait, it will quite often entice a strike and that walleye will be top-side. It may take 2, 5 or even 10 min, but most often they will hit. I might also suggest when you see the walleye enter the screen, slow down and use just lighter switches of the bait as you raise it above their head. It is a built-in instinct for fish to get aggressive when the bait is trying to flee, so imitate that as much as you can. I always compare this to playing with a cat and piece of string, it’s the same deal. Trust me, get one and you’ll catch more walleye.

Well, now all you have to say is “Where to fish”?…. Trenton, Potters, Big Island, Long Reach and many others)…. And what about the spots within spots???? AHHHH :o , too much information, Well, that’s your job…LOL

See you guys on the ice, BTW if anyone is heading out and you’re not familiar with what your doing…GET A GUIDE, it pays off (G2Angling.com) they are amazing.

Always watch for safe ice, especially with the warm week expected… (Hell, we could be in boats by the end of the week… BOOYA).

Anyone care to chat or join the boys and I, send me a PM…

Cheers, Hodgey...

Hey buddy,

Yah, you're in that group too, I should have known not to leave you out... We all know you're awesome on the ice!!

And BTW, the 2nd biggest fish came on a Gold "Fire Eyed Minnow", only one fish though. It's still one of my all time favorite baits.

Cheers, Hodgey...

The BPS hut is amazing!! It's actually made by Clam/Ice Armor. It's a bench style too, allowing you to slide across and utilize the entire hut Vs sitting in one spot on the left or the right...not the centre.

Cheers, Hodgey...
