Hi everyone,
Only been fishing a couple of years and still learning so please forgive my ignorance.
Upon driving past the Ontario-Hydro plant on the 33 along the lake I notice that there tends to be open water from the warm discharge, what times of the year would this provide good fishing oppportunities? I've heard that this can be a popular spot for someone who is restricted to shore-fishing.

Thanks for your help...

Mike

You can catch almost anything there from Walleye to Brown, rainbow and lake trout. The drop off is very quick and goes to about 70 feet just by casting from shore. Be careful when it cold because it can be very slippery and dangerous so wear a life jacked or better yet fish with a friend and have a rope handy just in case. It a good spot all year round just check the regulation book for whats OK to catch and when.

Thanks for that helpful info Dennis! (As well as the cautionary notes.)
I see that for div. 8 walleye ends on feb. 29 and Pike goes to Mar. 31. Browns and rainbows are open all year. My concern is that if I we're to target Pike I may inadvertedly get some Walleye. Maybe I ought to look into tackle for the trout...

Hi Kingston-Mike,

Glad to see you on quintefishing.com. There is always a discussion about shore fishing early in the spring and again in the fall. I know that you're interested in that aspect of fishing.

Thanks for that welcome David!

I've followed many of your posts with great interest, here and on other boards as well. Infact, you made a visit to a board I tried to set up for Shore-Line folks such as myself, but due to work and time constraints haven't been able to do much with it. Most of my readings have been right here. :D

There's been a small change though for me. A friend gave me a 12' Aluminum with an Evinrude 6hp late last Fall! I'm now shopping for a small trailer & a place to keep it (on a bldg supers' budget).

This should really open up my possibiliites. Shore-Line fishing did wonders for me as it forced me to hunt down spots in the region and now have a good selection of places to launch Queen Mary. :-D

I have noticed that there are several signs with messages "NO Trespassing" at the Ontario Power Generation Plant site. If you fish there could you not be charged with an offence for violating the NO TRESPASS SIGNS ? I don't know if they can charge you and fine you for ignoring these signs. I don't know the answer to this question but the signs leave me leary.

Does anyone know? :?:

It's called trespassing to fish; fine $74.00. Three charges laid this past weekend in the St. catharines area fishing spots.
