Quinte Fishing

I had a blackcat, used it once and took it back. 4 man hut and it did nothing to even warm it up. Was basically just a hand warmer. Picked up a Portable Buddy so hopefully that will be better.

I shouldve stated I have a 2 man hut (zub zero from C Tire) and thanks 4 all the replies
princess is out of stock,couldnt find anything at Home Hardware when I searched their page...I was estimating $50 had no clue what to spend but will sped more

but Im reading the 1st reply he has a 4 man hut and a blackat which barely heats a 4 man should do ok in a 2 man right? I work PT at C Tire so can get a discount there too on the sportcat since its on sale already

PS- I bought a 6" ice auger today at gagnon sports for $35 on sale too just picked up a set of replacement blades for my buddy for 25 so figured 35 is a steal no?

$35 is a good deal. My only concern would be getting a big quinte eye up through a 6" hole. My advice would be to drill two holes side by side and spud out the middle. Some times it's tuff to get those big ones turned around to come up through even a 8" hole. a bigger hole will also give you a little more room for if you use a flasher.

your two man hut has an open floor, that will require more heat then the blackcat's 3 000 - 4 000 btu in my opinion.

i love my 6" auger as it is a lot less work when the ice is thick, but would never even think of using a smaller hole then 8" on boq because of the size of the fish.

hindsight being 20/20 and I haul by foot i would buy a big buddy heater(cause of the built in fan and u can always turn it down) and the adapter to fill the 1 lbers.

as for a hand auger for the boq i would get a fin bore 3 in the 8" size.( the 1 with the curved blades)

and if ur haul sled fits in ur hut set the hut up so the sled is inside and put ur chairs in it and that will keep u warmer too...especially if u buy the sportcat. i know someone who has 2 of those heaters going in a suitcase style hut on colder days.lol

mind u i also fish with a guy who sits outside on a bucket on the coldest days and never complains about being cold even after reaching into the minnow bucket 100's of times when we are fishing perch.

have a look at the martin heater / cooker 12,000 btu/ can use bigger tanks with hose connector
