Hoping to get out there this weekend, I like to use buckshot jig black/silver or perch/gold or Swedish pimple all tipped with a mud minnow. If you want perch fish 10-15 ft walleye 20-30ft. Haven't been there yet this year so not exactly sure where people are catching. good luck.

Huff's is in the longreach Rob.It was once called Hayward longreach after Bob Haywood who raced I believe Miss Super test there years ago, right across from Huffs that red barn was the spectators area field and judge area. Jeez now I'm showing my age eh? :-)

Yup, your showin your age.............lol

If I remember it was The Prince Edward Cup in Picton, sometime around 1960-61.
I was a teen following that boat like a scalded dog back then................lol
Living in Windsor, it was great to see the races every year - our High School graphed Hayward and the races won. Great memories.............

It was just amazing to see those hydro planes going down the reach with their rooster tails high in the air eh?

I was never able to see him run down the Long Reach, but I do remember watching him run the St Clair River at 5:00 am in Sarnia - awesome rooster tails, and well worth getting up and going down to the river to see. I think I also saw him race on the Detroit River behind Belle Isle, if my memory serves me right.

in the 70's i believe it was called the Picton Gold cup and was it not the Hayward farm that we all sat at to watch the races :)

I still have the program from those races.....it was called the Harmsworth trophy race..... and I have no idea why they changed the name back to Long Reach when they renamed it Hayward Long Reach...seemed fitting to me.

Hmmm where is that program

There's a big weekend celebration planned for Picton for the first weekend in August to celebrate the Harmsworth Cup races and to unveil the Canada Post stamp for Heyward and the Miss Supertest III- saw the display at the Toronto Boats show.

Should be cool - hope they aren't running any boats in Haywards Long Reach as it's our fishing derby weekend.

I remember seeing one of those races when I first bought a boat in 1993ish. Any one know why they stopped hosting the races there?

An article on the races and Bob Haywards death, and the races in the county says it was getting to hard to get major sponsors for the races. Government restrictions on beer and cigarette companies as sponsors, was a factor.
