I can't imagine being in my hut on 5 to 6" of ice and have some guy drive up in a vehicle and want to chat about fishing. WOW is all I can say.

Hey bubble you should have seen it around here 30+ years ago, people use to fish off the end of George Street. There was a boat launch then right at the end of the street and it was plowed right out on to the ice. There was a village of icehuts out there back in them days. Nobody complained about people being too close because they expected it. If you decided to fish away from the crowds you were labeled "anti-social". The huts were actually placed in order and some folks even went as far as putting up street signs, they would have street numbers on their huts...they would have driveways for their cars...imitation neighbourhoods. it was too funny...someone would catch a fish and then the hootin and hollerin would start...the Bay use to be covered with people and icehuts on the weekends...it's all true...Gary

It was like a small village down by the cement plant like that as well, I used to drive my old truck out there, 2 feet of ice, when I was young and foolish

What happened? Alot of things are to blame..don't forget back then drinking played a large role in most people's outings, it was a party out there every weekend and it was pretty convenient if you fished in Belleville. They would drive their vehicles to the bottom of the harbour cross the road and you are at the beer store and then never leave the ice all day. Those were the "party fishermen". They all let each other know what was caught, who, when and where. Now we have elite fisherpersons ( compared to back then...not meant as a slam ) gadgets and gear play a huge role in today's fishing....how long could we stay out there on the ice with just a bucket and a pole...don't forget the fishing went in the crapper for a few years too...interest change...oh yeah...almost everybody drove a vehicle out on the ice...and when it went thru the ice it was always a borrowed vehicle..
"my buddy's truck" haha
