You guys are all saying that the best fishing of the season is coming up. What makes it so much better now, than it was in December? Just curious as to whether it is worth it to free myself up the next couple of weekends, or start to pack it up for the season?

More fish coming into accessible areas, better ice now which allows you to fish new fresh fish, and the fish need to eat more in preparation for spawning. However the last point can be delayed depending on the severity of winter. Don't pack it in, keep trying new safe spots.

woodsman is so right.......... I think first ice is always good then there seems to be a slack time in jan... but as a rule Feb is pretty consistant with some very good fishing right up til the close of season thats just my oppinion but ive fished BOQ for 10 years now and see that pattern so I go with it
