Hello bobbyb: I used the link over to the other site and read the rules and I have a question. Where on the Bay of Quinte do you plan to hold this event or do you have enough judges to go between Trenton and Picton? Just curious on how to weigh in and live release in accordance with Rule #6 and #8.

Hi Shepherd
The Logistics as to where we'll be situated is being finalized as I'm typing this. Ice conditions play an important part and we will be monitoring that facet daily.
The main Bay (between the Herchimer Launch and Grape Island) will have a weigh site all day. There will also be a final weigh site that participants will be able to weigh their fish between 5pm and closing at 6pm. That site will most likely be at Herch Launch. Confirmation of this will be posted in this thread once finalized.

I'm hoping to meet as many members and guests of this board at our Meet and Greet this coming Friday evening.

It will be a very casual event, at Crabby Joes, 8pm till 10pm. I'll be there to welcome you, along with some familiar people from this board - so don't be shy, com'on down and say hello!!

We will be registering participants for the Hardwater Challenge that evening, so you can get right out on the ice early Saturday; lot's of fisherpeople making new friends and sharing there fishing stories - and of course we will be having our Door Prize draws.

Door Prizes: Pro Tackle in Belleville has donated a nice gift along with Napoleon and more............so plan to attend.

NOTE:

a) If you require a ride out into the Bay (from Herchimer only) to fish - we have volunteers - please notify me by personal message as I am compiling a list. If you have a portable and are looking for a fishing buddy, let me know - most appreciated.

b) If you can't make the Meet & Greet we will have registration at Herchimer Launch Saturday Jan 29th - 6am-8am.

tight lines,

bobby

Just a quick mention:

I'll be on the Bay starting Wednesday morning, checking snow load and ice conditions. I'm aware that some spots are real tough if your running an ATV, or for that matter a heavy weight Sled right now.

I'll be updating in this thread only: Thanks everyone for the past pm's, keep them coming so we all can benefit.

safety comes 1st, tight lines,
bobby

Hi Bobby I have a few questions: when can we start fishing? When must we be at weight in? Can we go anywhere on the bay? How many walleye can one person weigh in?-Can we keep our limit (4) and combine weight or is it only one fish entered??? Mor questions to come after these answers. Thanks alot!

The Challenge starts at Sunup Saturday the 29th of Jan till Sundown. You can register at Crabby Joes Friday nite 8pm till 10pm or Sat morning between 6am and 8am at Herchimer Launch.

There will be a weigh in station at Herchimer Launch from 5pm till 6 pm on Sat.

There will be a weigh station on the Bay during the day - clearly marked so you can't miss it if you plan on live release - (weigh location will be a marked location on the Bay) - if you have a radio you can contact directly and get the GPS coordinates (live release) channel 4.

The fish must be caught within the Bay of Quinte regional area - ie. Huff's, Potters, Deseronto, The Bay, Big Bay etc. etc.

You can keep your limit. MNR rules must be followed to the limit.

Here's a link to the rules, which would be easier to read than me type it out.

http://www.gofishont.com/smf/spage,gofi ... enge_rules

I appreciate the questions so keep'em coming. Looks like the weather will cooperate on Saturday. Look for my snow/ice updates starting Wed. in this thread.

tight lines and stay safe,
bobby

Thanks. Ok so if I register Friday night can I go straight to fishing saterday morning or do we have to meet at hechmers st first?
So is the derby based on a 4 fish limit? Is it ur combined weight that determines ur position? If we arrive at say 6:05pm are we disqualified? Is there deductions for dead fish?
Thanks!

Sorry I just read how the scoring works. So we can enter our limit of all fish for a total score right? And I see weigh in is over at 6:30pm so my question is then if we arrive at 6:35pm r we then disqualified?
Thanks

Belleville Wenesday Jan 26th

[When reading this, remember, things change so I'll be reporting again tomorrow nite and Early am Friday]

Toured the Bay out from Herchimer Launch and over towards the shute or narrows (Pt. Anne is on the opposite side).

What we have are pocket areas of 8" of slushy snow - you will see them - not many - but enough that you have to give it. ATV's were handling it just fine (4x4) (If you have a low lift you could have a problem) sure you'll bog a bit - but at least its not glare ice. Sleds - I had no problem whatsoever.

Ice - in the Bay to Grape Island from the launch and over to the point - EAST - 8/10"

Big Bay - Pt Anne - going is tough - you can reach it off Mass Point - Conservation area with parking - that will take you to the shoal just east of the point.

Potters - Pass for now.

Fishing - Excellent. We were out from 2pm till 6:30 and 8 were iced amongst 6 people fishing. Largest fish came in at 10lbs 3 oz.
They are slamming into the lures hard -Minnow tipped lures seem to be the ticket; Colours that were effective - Gold /Gold Yellow/ Gold Green

Great day, Belleville is such a nice city, excellent people, great parking, lot is fully lit early am/dusk and Tims is real close.........lol

1 item of importance - when you come down Herchimer avenue, towards the bay - slow right down going over the tracks.

more to come tomorrow,

bobby
