Just was wondering what everyone's minnow preference is? It seems a lot of guys like central mud minnows. I also know alot of guys like fishing with dace species (ie. Northern redbelly and finescale). Does anyone have any luck with shiners (ie. emerald, golden or common). The shiners do have a lower stress tolerance and don't last a week in the minnow pale. Could this be why not to many people fish them or do they simply not produce? Is there a "go to" minnow that's always been a sure thing on BOQ?

How many guys out there are doubling and tripling up on there treble hooks? Anyone find that this makes a difference to neutral or negative fish?

Any input would be great thanks!

Never had much luck on shiners, very hard to keep alive for the next trip out, if there are a few days between trips. I am sure lots of guys do ok with them tho. Pro tackle has been selling dace, I have had good luck with their minnows, Im not sure it really matters, a minnow is a minnow, but probably some guys on here have more experience and some good opinions as well. cheers, Eric

This year is the first time I've used Dace, and I got 2 wallys my first time out. When your jigging, I don't really think it matters too much if the minnow is dead or alive, it's kinda the scent thing, so Emeralds are also a good choice even though they don't last as long. Have always used Emerald shiners until this year.

I have no problem keeping my shiners alive in the winter for months, I just throw a shovel of snow in the bucket every couple of days,as it melts they get thier oxygen. I use a big tote to keep them in at home, just don't put the bucket on the cement floor of your garage...it'll freeeze bottom up right through.
Never used Dace, are they a hardier baitfish?

I was told at Pro Tackle that they were. Seems like a lot of work to do, to keep them alive

Shiners are the gold standard for lakers! As for wallys, they'll eat just about any minnow out there!

i'm newer to the bay, have used both shiners and mud minnows, seem to like the shiners better so far.
