If you fell through in the fast current area

Just a curiosity, if someone fell through in the high current area, will the current suck you under the ice or you can still manage to get out.

if your wearing a survival suit you're likely going to bob around and have a chance to pull or spike yourself out. without the suit I wouldn't want to be the person who goes through high current or not, also remember the current in the Bay isn't like river river current which may be fast water, the current in the bay is a lot less pronounced in most areas.

have a friend who went thru at point anne a few years back and the one thing i remember most is how he told me the currents wanted to suck him right down litterly scared the beejesus out of him so the answer is yes if you are in a fast current area like the narrows, Mass point in the trough its possible to be sucked right under the ice in wich case they will recover your body down streem..... MAYBE......... get a float suit as Gene said,,,,,, it coulld save yer life for sure!

That mean with float suit they won't suck down by current?

Float suit or not you don't have much time to get back on the ice before you wont have the strength to do it. The good thing about a suit is your family will have somthing to bury.

Has anyone heard someone with float suit get sucked down by current during ice fishing ?

The type of float suit I've seen Sheldon wear fits so tightly that it would prevent you from kissing your "you know what" good bye. Gary

The current isn't strong enough to suck you under in Quinte. I've tried out how bouyant the suits are in my buddies pool a few years ago. I jumped off the top of a ladder and my body would not go under the water. Perhaps if you decided to go walk across the Niagara River above the whirlpool, you may go under there but no way (unless you are 300+ lbs) will you go under with a suit in Quinte.

Either way its good practice to use a floater suit and have ice picks at the ready when your on the move. floater suit or not, the cold water will kill you above or below the ice.

I have never heard of anyone being sucked under the ice wearing a floater suit but saying that nothing is imposable.

saw a guy fall overboard in the niagara queenston run,had a mustang floater suit on he didnt go down,no ice but really cold water,,picked him out of the river about 2-3 miles below where he fell in,one cold boy for sure!!!but he didnt go under!!!

The guy that went through in the Trent River a couple of years ago behind the arena and drowned, he was near the middle of the river ,they found his body on bottom approx.50ft.down river from where he went in,and there was high current there.

Sorry no floater suit,I suspect that is why he didn't drift to far,just sank immediately.
