Hey people, just wondering what type of line everyone is using, and how important you think it is to use line specifically made for ice fishing, or do you use the standard lines that you use on the open water.

I have used many types and brands from Berkley to Suffix, mono to lead core but my tried and true choice would have to be a 5/8" Nylon Camo for low visibility, straight tie to a hook. No swivel, leader or anything else to get in the way. Offers a bit of stretch but I've never lost a fish.

Truth be told. For Ice: Fireline ice, swivel and a flourocarbon leader.

14lb fireline, bearing swivel, 2' of 15lb flourocarbon leader material. Sensitive and invisible. Lighter drag setting needed for the superline, due to the no stretch factor.

I use the same stuff i use for open water. 10lbs floro but for the ice i throw a berkley quick change swivel on cause i hate cold hands. I tried using braid but after one season of sitting on the ice and watching the ice freeze my real forcing missed fish, im not looking back. Floro is amasing. Disapears, less stretch then mono, and can take a few nicks in the line before a retie.

cheers!

6lb spider wire ice line.its a shade of white and once its in the water it looks clear...the only draw back is when an 11lb eye is near the hole and you have the line in your hand and the eye decides he doesnt want to come out of the water>>>the line will cut your hands good...and so long 4 now;john
