Opinions wanted

I had my Triton ripped off from driveway last spring and decided that I better get my new one on order.

I was looking @ the Lund Pro Guide or the Crestliner Pro Tiller, anyone who own either of these I would like to know how you like them.

This is a completely new avenue for me since I have always owned 20+ Rangers or Tritons and I am not sure how the aluminum boats compare.

Once you have ran a fiberglass hull it is really hard to go back. I have both and the fiberglass is more stable, easier to manuver and easier to stay on your spot with any kind of wind. The aluminum has alot of good things to it such as fall fishing or fishing in any type of high wind and waves for confort. Do you homework and take one out before you buy anything. There are lots of places you can take one for a test drive. Don't just jump the gun with a big purchase like that. You don't buy a car without a test drive, Why not with a boat. My 2 cents.

hey pete,you,should really take a look at the new trackers,they are sweet, i run a 17.6 2010 proguide w/t 90 optimax-9.9 prokicker,60lb thrust minnkota bowmount with the remote,hummingbird 788c sonar/gps, a lowrance x55 on the front ,infloor storage,2 livewells,on board charger,vhf marine radio/6ft whip antenae, downriggers ,rod holders dry storage up front ,8ft rod loskers,25in,transom,trolling motor battery is midship,nice seats,non-carpetted floor in the cock-pit area,28 gallon fuel tank, I have used this machine everywhere,the bay,Erie ,lake Ontario,Scugog,and everywhere in between,handles great in wind,good on gas,get about 40mph loaded,rated for a 135hp but 135 is same block as 150 ,my dealer says no problems with a 150,will push 60mph,I dont need to go that fast!!!! lol,I love this boat,9.9 is steering wheel connected witha panther system,is awesome, quiet running,smooth, and dry,i could go on and on,take a look you won,t be disappointed!!! the 20 ft Tracker is also a hell of a boat too,I looked but too big for me but a really nice rig.Ed-good fishing----PS the price is good too,i looked at alot of makes--Lunds are awesome but its a mortgage payment,Polarcraft,Tritons,Princecraft,Mirrorcraft,all nice but for the money I went with a tracker,awesome boat for the money,!!!

I currently have a Ranger 620, 250 Merc and before that a 19' Lund with Yamaha power.. over the years I have run several aluminum boats and 2 glass boats and I dont think I could go back to aluminum.. if you have run a triton (while a far seecond to Ranger:) ) going back will be difficult.. maneuverability, comfort and stability are all better...

To Sheldon's point there are circumstances where the aluminum shines, but overall going from glass to aluminum will be a challenge.

With all due respect to a previous post, there is, IMHO a huge difference in quality, aluminum or glass .. whether it is worth the money or not depends on how you use the boat... inland lakes and weekend use is far different than running big water and fishing/running hard.

in regards to the aluminum vs glass boats,I ran an 18.6ft Tuffy for about 12 yrs,amrican top of the line glass boat,tournament fishing and rec fishing,i have had both types,in my opinion,both have advantages and dis-advantages,my aluminum boat is a far drier ride than the glass boat,while i can run harder in bigger water in glass,my hull wont crackin the aluminum as im going slower,i have fished all the great lakes in both ,unless you are running charters,aluminum is the way to go,lets look at some 20 yr old glass boats and then 20 yr old aluminums,for the most part aluminums win hands down!no fading,costly hull repairs,floors and carpeting,my decks are 100 ga. aluminum also,heavy vinyl flooring in the cockpit,gelcoating is very expensive,and so are transom repairs,no osmosis in aluminum either,for longevity aluminum is my choice!!Ed-good fishin

bought an oufit from bps 16ft deepv with walkthrough wind shield ..if i had to do over again.and cash wasnt an issue ??/lund..

I know -if cash wern,t an issue!!!!!But for the majority of us non-sponsered fishmen with families and jobs,mortgages, that isn,t really reality now is it!!! I work very hard for my money ,I {my opinion} think my Tracker is a heck of a boat,this is my second Tracker,and I love it,very fishable,comfortable,fairly fuel eff.,easy to tow ,big storage comps,8ft center rod locker ,holds all my gear neatly,good in the wind,i made several upgrades when I bought it,batteries,trolling motor,9.9 Merc prokicker,vhf radio,sonor/gps,upgraded all the pumps,interior lights ,man this is a dream boat,I could have got a Lund 1900 fisherman only,none of the other stuff,so as a family man ,i chose to have a good, fully loaded tracker instead of a bare bones Lund!!!Just my opinion !!!Ed-good fishin

I am no sponsored fishman believe me and I am not taking issue with your opinion, I am just saying that I would find it hard to go back to a aluminum boat after having had the Ranger and the guy said he had a Triton and Ranger so he must paid off his mortgage and his kids are all grown up I guess or he is independantly wealthy.... I believe in the buying the best you can afford so like you said the Tracker fits your need perfectly.. that is awesome.. tight lines!

my biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell all my fishing and hunting stuff for the price I said I paid for it:)

I agree with C5 on that one. Going back is tough. But we can all agree that you need to shop around and look at all your options for boat manufacturers, dont be shy to take a couple out for a test or two.

My two cents goes to Lund. it's a great name, and you always see happy faces riding in those.

Oh and C5, you cant compare a lead sled to a Triton! thats crazy talk!

I remember another Triton guy telling me the same thing... as I was towing him in with his powerplant hanging off something called a jackplate.. we Ranger guys don't know what that is

seriously though I have fished off of Tritons, Skeeters and a bunch of Rangers and Lunds and they are all awesome boats for what they were designed for.. I just fish multi-species and big water so the 620 works for me.. no disrespect for the guys that any of the others including Tracker.. I agree with the notion of a test ride(s)

Go to the fishing show in TO next month.. everyone ought to be there... good chance to compare options prices etc..

ok heres,one for you guys,my american boat, Tuffy. actually MWC Championship Rig 18ft Tuffy,what do you guys think of this rig,glass,150 mariner,???? have you ever even seen one??I fished it for 12 yrs,tournament and rec fishing,all size lakes and rivers around canada and the US,i,ll post my issues with it after i hear responses!!!

Hey Chasineye.. just opened your pic... very nice rig and very nice fish looks like you look after it well too.. the boat doesn't make the fisherman for sure..

I had meant to say that the best boat to fish is the one you are fishing in.. the getting out fishing part is way more important than the vehicle.

i own a pro guide, any specific questions, just ask. mine is a 1998 though, and i've owned it since 2004. but they didn't change the hull much with the new models.

it's funny, i have money for a new boat, however, i cannot find a replacement. (for any amount of money).

i cannot even consider a glass boat - as my needs include ice breaking and shallow water "bottom touching"....
