Hands Down the Lowrance X67c Ice machine. LOVE IT :D .. I've used all the flashers you stated but at the end of the day its the Lowrance X67c .. I use the sonar fish finder on it, simply amazing.. but the flasher on it is good too.

Aadil

Like Aadil, I think it is a great unit. I don't believe the flasher is as good a display as the Vex or Marcum but I use the sonar on split screen and zoomed in at 2X or 4X depending on the depth of water that I am fishing. The 60 degree cone gives an awesome display. Would leave home without it. Priceless.

Ive used a few different ones now and i do have to say they all worked they all did the job they were intended to do but bottom line at the end of the day it really is up to you to learn how to use and read what ever one you are using, as someone said everyone who owns ome likes the one they own,,,,,,, this tells most they all work,,,,,,,,,,,,, I do have to admit the x65c offers features that thus far no other flasher offers thats the capability of using the flasher all winter then putting it on yer tinny or canoe come summer so there is a clear advantage there..... As far as 6 colors lol. all I want to see is one big azz red mark on mine all the other colors mean zippo...... what do I care if its loaded with minnows or perch ? im fishing big walleyes!! Learning how to set the gain is the key I use a bottom of the line marcum vx-1 and I can set it up to where i can see the seperation from my swivle, my jig and see the minnow below it.......... how much more does one really need ?? . Sheldon loves the bottom lock because its new to him the old FL8 dont have a bottom lock feature Marcum still has the best bottom lock of all of them and I dont even use it on mine,,, I like to see from top to bottom the split screen just drives me nuts, ........ i say buy what you can afford spend time with it learn how to use it and you will be happy with what ever you bought! hey a BMW is a nice car but worthless as tits on a boar hog if yer gonna climb a mountin or run thru a swamp!

I was in the same boat ... Which one to buy . After a lot of research and private pm, s I went with the X67c ice machine. I got it a week ago. It's been redesigned,(not as pictured when you order it. No pic anywhere on the net that I can find of the one I got from Radioworld. they got rid of a swing out arm that previous owners didn't like and now give you 2 little tackle boxes that tuck underneath the unit yet contained in the whole pouch. Your more than welcome to see it if you want B4 purchasing if in the area. I'm not experienced with it yet but I can tell you that after going out with it only 1 time so far( hopefully more this coming week lol) there was nothing to it as far as icefishing goes and do not regret the purchase . I wont sit here ad tell you it's the best because I haunt used other ones but I can tell you that because I like kayak fishing as well and didn't want to spend a fortune, I feel I made a good choice for my fishing habits and what I wanted to spend. Can't wait to do my kayak angling with it in a few months 

Wow and I thought I was confused before. What I take away from all the varied posts here is that they all do a good job at identifying fish, and at the end of the day, which ever one I decide to chose will be a good choice.

Maybe what should be asked is: are there any out there that new buyers should avoid at all costs? Comments?

Dave

you're asking the wrong questions... what you should be doing, is asking yourself where you want to use the flasher. how deep are you going to be fishing, will you be fishing in weeds, etc, etc...

if you're only going to be fishing quinte then my suggestion would be the Marcum VX-1. it has a zoom, and is great in shallow water... if you plan on ever fishing for lakers or whitefish (on simcoe or elsewhere). that unit will not be your best option, and you'll want one of the higher end units (of any of the brands) so that you can read your bait down at 100+ fow. if you are fishing a weedy lake, such as scugog, your best option is probably the vex fl20, because it has a low-power option that cuts the weeds out of the dial, yet still marks your bait and fish.

I have owned the Marcum VX-1, Marcum LX-5, and have owned the Vex fl20 for the past 3 seasons. i wasn't fully satisfied with either of the Marcums, and i love my Vex... however, i still don't think there is a perfect flasher out there yet... Vex came close with the new fl22, but it only has a depth range of 60 feet... that doesn't cut it on simcoe...

good luck with your purchase!

Have had the lowrance ice meachine for a few years and it's excellent. Catch more fish form sure, as you will see them first.

scour the internet and you'll find that the best bang for your buck is the marcum vx-1 pro. for $299 (radioworld.ca) you get 1000w peak to peak power (fl8 se has 800w) plus you get the bottom lock zoom which is not available with other bottom line units. that being said, they all do what really matters, catch fish!!!

Honestly I think this type of thread is going to be full of good info but it's classic ford vs chevy. I owned a vex fl20 and really liked it. The zoom is a nice feature. I did use a Humminbird ice 55 and loved it right away. Everyone has diff priorities so the end choice is gonna be diff for everyone but here's what I liked about the ice 55 over the vex.

Quieter operation
I find the led lighting easier on the eyes after a few hrs of use
Larger display
6 color display really helps identify size of your target!
LCD depth display in center
Factory dual ducer
included case ( I find the case quality better than anything from vex. However the marcum has a nice case too)
There are a few other things but those were what did it for me.

My advice is over next few times on the ice look around and just make small talk with guys using flashers and watch their flasher etc maybe even ask to try. Most guys love showing off their toys so won't mind I'm sure. Good luck in your decision. My vote is humminbird ice 45 or 55 all the way.
