hi guys,
I hope you will be able to provide me with some information on fishing the opener week on BoQ.

A couple buddies and I who are not new to fishing would like to make the trip this year to fish around opener. We chose the 5th to 9th to avoid opener traffic, so my first question is would you reccomend this time of year or wait a few more weeks?

second question - we have boats, but dont really feel like trailering them. So we are considering boat rentals and found a place called Merland Park that has accomodations and boat rentials. I also see they are a sponser on these pages....so can you guys comment on their boats, their facilities, their ability to put people on fish? they seemed like really nice people when i was emailing them.....so im sure they are great, but i wanted your opinion.

lastly, if we do go with Merland.....Do you guys suggest we go with a guide as well? I dont know the bay at all, i know how to read topo maps and structure, so i could wing it im sure....but a guide is always nice to show you the ropes. what do you guys think?

Sorry for all the questions.....Hope to see you all on the lake soon

No first hand experience to offer, but I know that they are gods to most on this site.. Seen Kevin put Peter Bowman from Fishin Canada onto fish. I know I plan on checking them out myself problably this year. Hope this helps. Be sure to post after your trip and let us know how you did. By the way, great time of year to hit Quinte.

Thanks guys....i searched a bit through the boards and your right, they have a great reputation.

I emailed them today to book my room and boat...now all i need is to sit at my desk and wait 2 months to get out there :-)

I'd be reading the board from May 1st until you leave to drive to BoQ.

There'll be results from opening week that will give some ideas as what to use and where to go.

Staying at Merland Park, you've Picton Bay at your doorstep and quick access to to the big water in front of the Cement Plant .

Looking forward to seeing your results.
