Sorry wall-i-guy, that was in reference to targa 2 who by telling us to stay of channel 16 undermines what vhf is all about.

Lets try and get this sorted out.

The radio STATION license was manditory, it is now optional for pleasure craft.

The radio opperators license is manditory, but I think they will let you have the radio on board as long as the mike is not attached.
The max. fine for opperating vhf without the license is $5000 and costs and or 12 months in the slammer.

If the offence was commited or continued on more than one day you can be charged for each offence.

Superfluous transmissions are good for a $5000 fine, so keep your message short and share the channel with others, there are only a couple channels for pleasure craft. Don't let anyone play with the radio.

Its against the law to use vhf on land unless you are a marina and they are restricted to 68.

Channel 16 is for calling- making contact with intended receiver and then move to 68, and emergency traffic. you should be monitoring 16 whenever possible so that as many stations as possible can hear distress calls.

You should know when and how to call a distress, urgency and security message and instruct someone else how in case you should hit the deck holding your chest after fighting a big fish.

I hate the f------ tax grab fishing, hunting ,gun registering ladder climbing pesticide applicating ... licenses too but when your given the power too mobilize a sea king and put others in danger maybe a $20 license for life is not to much too ask.

Sounds like the gun registry might go that way too! Here's hoping, from a non-hunter I might add!

The power squadrons are runnuing their spring coarses , Prince Edward squadron will have a boat pro.(boat License coarse) and VHF coarse in april.

And you still need your operators license, the license they dropped was the radio station license that is now optional to pleasure craft. So Howard your license is still good.
