I notice that for the Kiwanis May 1st/2nd Walleye Pike Tournament there are a number of money prizes if you catch a tagged fish. For ex.

1 Tagged walleye - $20,000
2 Tagged Pike - $5000 and so on

In the history of this tournament has anyone caught or witnessed a tagged fish caught? I know the Bay is big but who knows someone may have been at the right location at the right time with the right presentation.

Good question:
I cannot comment about during the tournament, but afterwards I am aware of at least one fish being reported (I do not recall the year). No idea if it qualified for a reduced prize. I like the idea, and would guess that they must get Lloyd's of London or some similar company, to draw up the policy to cover this.
Regards
Don Stokes

One week before the tournament, fish are tagged and then released throughout different areas of Division 8. This increases the chances of catching them regardless where you are in Division 8 as they are not released in just one or two areas but dispersed widely.

Even a $1,000 tagged fish would be quite a catch but a fisherman could go into cardiac arrest with a $20,000 one!

According to one of the reps organizing the Kiwanis Tournament, somebody caught a $1,000 tagged fish in 2002 and 2003.

A friend of mine caught a tagged walleye back around 2001 I think, it was caught in Brighton, I know a few others have been caught during the derby since then. The tag looks kind of like a tea bag, with out the bag on the end so look carefully.

It's under glass on a real nice piece of driftwood. My uncle wasn't going to let that one go. He still kisses it all the time.

After sept 11 the chances of catching a tagged fish have gone way up. I'm sure thats what the insurence co. is telling them.
