Do they make much of a difference? If so, how much longer life do you get ?

With the tough tough mud minnows of quinte,no difference, with seemingly more fragile shiners like up on simcoe a big difference. I keep the bucket of shiners in the garage with an electric aerator, only way to go . no batteries.cheers

I've had minnows from pro tackle in the fridge for at least 4 weeks now. A few die here and there but the majority are still going.

if you have well water just changing yer water every other day is good dont do that if your water is clorinated thou the fish use up the oxygen 3 fish in a 55 gallon drum wil last years 40 minnows in a one gallon pal wont last more than a few days but just changing out the water sure helps alot but go to the pet store and buy an air pump like used in a fish tank you will never have a problem

yup electric aerator works wonders, keep the bucket in a cool place, change the water every 3 days... I have kept the same bunch of minnows alive for weeks (meaning I haven't exactly hammered the fish and therefore have lots of leftovers:) .. I throw in a bit of fish food from the Koy pond once a week. At the current prices hard to throw them away:)

I use shiners alot and i have both aerators,ac and dc, the 1st time i bought 2 scoops i knew i needed to get one, they were looking ill in the pail after a bit.....if i were to buy again i would look for a quieter battery one.

Water changes and fridge temperature water is more valuable the any aerator if they are in room temp they will die in a day or 2 even with one if they are in the fridge they last forever i change my water twice a week and have been keeping both shiners and mud minnows on hand at all times

I keep minnows in a 5 gallon pail in the insulated garage, with an aquarium arerator. I keep both muds and golden shiners for up to a month. Change the water every three days and your good to go. Cool fresh water is all they really need, but the aerator certianly helps, especially if it's a bit crowded in there. To many in one bucket without aeration and they use up the available oxygen, then toast. Plus the aerator helps keep the pail from freezing up by moving the water.

I an oversized beer fridge in the shop I keep at just above freezing temps, I suppose I could make some room for a minnow bucket lol
