I am not sure if the rules have changed in a few years however when my father was sick all he had to carry around was his handicap card and a piece of ID and it gave him a full sports lic. I am 99 percent sure he is good to go and the same rules apply as sportsman lic. Check the regulations.

Our citizens who have reached age 65 do not require a fishing licence, and are entitled to the full sportfishing limits. All they need is some ID to prove their age and place of residence. Get your Dad out there and have him put 4 on the ice. Good Luck.

To be more accurate, it is not just "our citizens...", (by "citizens", if you meant "Canadian citizen", that is, one who has Canadian citizenship and thus is entitled to a Canadian passport).

The MNR regulation on fishing without a license for those over 65 or under 18 applies to residents of Ontario or Canada, thus Canadian permanent residents (those who became Canadian landed immigrants, that is, have received Canadian permanent resident status, BUT have not become Canadian citizens) are also included.

Nope, didn't mean to imply you have to be able to get a passport. Just that you have to be a legal permanent resident over the age of 65. I have nothing against our landed immigrant friends. My mother was an American citizen and lived here as a landed immigrant for 25 years before obtaining her full citizenship. Good luck out there.

Hi Dog Lake, no, I didn't mean that you have anything against any landed immigrant. I just meant your original post "Our citizens who have reached age 65 do not require a fishing licence" is not accurate enough. Because the MNR regulation applies to both Canadian citizens and landed immigrants (that is, it applies to all Canadian "residents"), which by the way, means even if you are over 65 or under 18 or are disabled, if you are only a temporary visitor to Canada (ie, you are not a Canadian citizen nor a landed immigrant), then you still must have a valid fishing license before you can fish in Ontario.

check the regs on page 4 .
it states Ontario Resident and Canadian Resident
doesn't say you have to be a Canadian Citizen
it also states " Those who qualify to fish with a deemed licence must follow the same catch and possession limits as a sport fishing licence

I stand corrected. Should not have used "Citizen", but "resident". Didn't go to the regs for the exact wording, just wanted to let chasineyes/everywher, who started the thread, know that his dad could keep his full sportfishing licence limit, so they could get out and not worry about it.

If you are following the other threads you will know they got out and had a great day. Hope ya'll do the same.

Tight lines.
