I normally fish on Lake Simcoe but have been fishing on the Bay of Quinte this year. Today we were fishing off Weiss Rd near Carrying Place and we were totally shocked when we caught a mudpuppy. It was the ugliest fish I have ever seen in my life. It was about 18 inches. Are mudpuppies rare? Was that a large mudpuppy?

They are actually just an underwater salamander, not really a fish.

I've caught several on tip ups on the St.Lawrence. Never caught one nearly that size. I kept one in a fish tank in my classroom and it ate minnows. Did it have exterior gills? Gills are very obvious on mud puppy.

I got one at the rush bar early in the season, it was over a foot long. Caught a ton of them on Lake Nipissing in the condo's, as soon as the sun went down the fish quit and it was mudlizard after mudlizard!!
