Tracks on ATV

Just wondering with all the snow and slush on the ice, does anyone have tracks on their ATV? Do they work well in this snow and slush on the lake? Or is a sled better?

Check out the thread "Thanks quinte fishing team ". The guys got two ATVs stuck and a buddy with tracks came out and recued them, so sounds like they work great. Saw a show on them on one of the ATV test shows and they would go through mud, sand, slush, deep snow. Thinking about getting a set for my bike, which gets as many miles on the ice as it does land. They are obviously not as fast as a sled, so I guess it depends on what you are looking for. If you already have an ATV, I would try the tracks.

I've got a quad, we were out yesterday but we didn't get too far. Got stuck a bunch of times. Not fun!

Honestly I think you'd be better off buying a good used sled. Those tracks are pretty pricey.
You could get a decent sled for half the price and have the best of both worlds.
I've also heard but don't know for sure that on the smaller atv's is quite hard on them to run the tracks.

Your going to pay close to $4000.00 for a set of tracks for your atv. They do work great in snow. they add alot of weight and you lose about 25% of your speed.

What size is your bike? they reconmend 600 cc or higher.

I have tracks on a grizzly 660. This is my 3rd year running them and I couldn't be happier. Oneida lake is a slush pit right now and I am still fishing and pulling a few sleds out also. They do cost you about 15 percent on the top end speed. Mine are the camoplast tatou all season. I beleive they list for around 3100 now.

Thanks everybody for your response. I've got a Can Am Outlander 800. I'm just weighing the options of either getting tracks or maybe a used sled. Just sick off digging the atv out of the slush and snow.

I have a set of tracks on my Canam Outlander 800 and i have a skidoo legend 600......they are comparing apples to oranges......if you want to cut trees....go anywhere you choose....pull anything.....and be super reliable...get the tracks....if you want to fly, have a speed rush, not tow too much , get a snowmobile. I guarantee i go farther in deep powder than my sled ever would and that is not throwing in slush and water to the mix or let alone pulling a sleigh or something heavy. I could do about 80 kph with the tracks but they are more meant for about 20-30 kph. I love the tracks and they surprise me almost everytime i go for a ride. Mine are the TJD XGEN all seasons. If you live near napanee and want to try my bike with the tracks you are more then welcome to give them a rip...Just pm me. Hope that helps a bit.

Bluedog, from what I have witnessed, from the last few days and seen in the past, I don't think the argo's would have a problem handling any of the conditions we're dealing with right now, lots of tires and lots of grab.

It is harder to steer with the tracks for sure.....but totally bearable...my wife drives it no problem....so does my 12 year old niece...The newer design of track is a lot more steering friendly then the old syle.

I think the argo is a great machine that would go just as far as atv tracks.....especially an argo equipped with a set of tracks...but i also heard and read that you gotta be pretty mechanically inclined to run the argo....cause they are hard on bearings and generally less reliable than a 4 wheeler.
