I'm looking to do some channel catting prior to the season walleye opener. Can anyone tell me if there are any spots in quinte that would be good. It would be a blast for the kids. Thanks and great season to all

There are some hugechannel cats in BOQ. This is a vastly underutilized part of the resource that is not known outside of BOQ for the most part. I know the Napanee R., about 500 yds. downstream of the Centre St bridge used to have some GREAT cats, but I am too far away at present to provide much more in the way of information. Night time on the northside was where some real monsters have been taken. Sorry I do not have more up to date info.
Regards

Thanks for the info. Do you know of any launches near the centre street bridge? I can taste the cajun' cats now. Cheers

There is a launch right at the Centre St. bridge. When walleye opens upstream...there are some fabulous young mudcats at the base of the falls (bring a big bucket).

Thanks for the tips Don. We'll be there fri afternoon April 30. Never tried mudcats before. The ones I caught are usually really small, around under a pound. How big are these guys. Cheers

There are a number of areas to fish for bullheads (mudcats), and channels, in the Quinte area. Many do not require boats.

Dear Psychodad

If you are able to go opening weekend or after walleye.....you will be much more productive.....you will win one way or another.....trust me on this.....I never give all the information...but you have what you need to be 100%.......after opening day (assumption is that channel cats OR mudcats are the 100%)....walleye are an added bonus.

There is but a very small group that ernestly target mudcats........right by the falls....(corner of falls on Springside Park side) and the timing is right....spring is the best time for optimum texture, quality in BOQ cats (I will not eat them in warm weather).

PS If Springside Fish hatchery is open and you have the time, please take your kids there...and do not hesitate to leave a small donation (the hatchery always needs the money and is 100% community run)

Best of Luck
Don Stokes
