Ice fishing here would sure be an adventure. You'd really want to hope you found the right spot the first time...

Reminds me of ice fishing Cold Lake, Alberta. We had to put extensions on the auger, and stand on top of the box of the truck to get it started. Averaged about four feet of ice til the end of April, and most lakes didn't loose their ice until after May two-four. Cheers.
