sunday fishing

out on sun with quinte ice fishing team,not a bad morn but fishing was over by noon,did not mark any fish after lunch.a couple of issues,we were told to meet up at 520am,no one showed till well after 6,there were 5 of us and they only had 1 atv,i was in an older hut that had all of the wall tiedowns ripped,when the wind came up it was hell inside,i could'nt get off of the seat because the portable would blow over so the walls were flapping all over the place,i guess my major complaint is that by the time we were set up we had missed a good hour of prime time fishing.anyway some fish caught and some techniques learned

Sorry to hear about ur disappointing trip, but it is icefishing!!!! Plans don't always come together!!
portible huts are great but wind is there worst enemey

As for equipment issues and being late they should be able to compensate you in one way or another!! Did u bring this up to ur guide?? I'm guessing not

Those guys have a good rep so I'm sure they would have tried to fix things!!!

ok,i see the problem here,over-expectations,and I get it,when anybody hires a guide they have certain expectations,punctuality,professionalism,maintained equipment,and knowledge of fish and migrations,if you get some fish-great!!-if not it is still a fishing experience,learning,sharing stories,i have hired guides myself a few times,always had good people help me out,except one time,my first trip to Lake Erie,bad guide,only wanted to drift and cast weight forward spinners-no other techniques,---had a discussion with him and we resolved my issue--i actually showed him a few things,and caught alot of fish,he gave us a free day with him,point is --guides are real people too,they can make mistakes,have a bad day,etc-chit happens,call the guide up ,express your concerns-he cant control the weather,the bite,unexpected delays,,they will work to remedy the situation--they rely on referals-good ones to make a living!!!!!!Ed

I for one think it was a good post 3ed post or not lol........ I see nothing wrong with any of it on either the guide or the charters perspective.......... to be honist im a time nut I hate being 5 minutes late let alone 45 minutes so its a ligit gripe if you ask me to be just a tad upset. saying that no one is perfect and who knows why they werer late, iid hate to think they slept in while i was driving cross country trying to be on time!
5 guys. one mode of transportation ?? another border line grip. they are paying for this trip........ all plans should have been made and set in place for a 5 man trip. lets face it its getting late in the season gear has taken a beating but when yer in buisness you need to expect that and be ready for it as well!
Im sure quinte ice didnt say look my shacks are bad and I have one bike right now and the fishing is a bit slow at the booking. so whos falt is this really ?? did the guy get a break on price up front ?? I guess we will just never know!!
Bottom line as others said maybe it would have been good to show a little displeasure and see what they had to say, maybe a price break was offered, or could have been offered ? way I see it is they cought a few fish, and learned some new tricks so it wasnt a total loss, but you dont wanna stay in a 4 star hotel and get one blanket, and one pillow, a broken TV and pay top dollar!!
This post was not all negitive or all possitive so if you ask me its a great post and may help other people in booking, know what to ask so you know what to expect on game day!!

Sorry guys but im going to agree with Grizz on this one.

1. We really have to get off the "only 3 post" thing. Its starting to look like a old boys club here and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

2. As for being late.. well thats a big NO NO in the hunting and fishing world. Yes I do know things happen and no one is perfect. With today's technology a simple cell call could have been made... and maybe it was????

3. The way I see it is all huts should be tied down. Understandable about having some damages to the hut as these guys use them daily. However there is still lots of areas to put a few tie downs on. It not a very enjoyable experience jigging with one hand and holding a hut down with the other. If it was that windy and the knowledge of faulty gear was known then maybe the charter should have been canceled.

4. As for 1 atv and 5 guys.. well I don't really see anything wrong with that. I do know it takes more time to get everyone out there and im sure they are aware of this also. No one wants to miss the early bite. Im thinking the late start messed this up.

Sorry guys im not busting anyone's balls here as I know first hand how worn out a guide can be at this time of the year. Quinte Fishing Team is a great bunch of guys and im sure had no intentions of making a negative impact. Give them a call and voice your concerns.

not many posts as i don't live close by,been reading this board for years,only post when i have something that is related to fishing to say.i just think that for the money,the huts could have been tied down as it got very windy and we could have been on the water for the start of the morning bite,not complaining about the fishing at all,nice bunch of guys that were happy to answer any ?s.i am lucky if i get to fish boq 1 a year,best place for eyes by far

I've been out with another guide group from the area (they may even share guides), 2 water outings and two ice outings, had one good outing on water and one on ice. We had some problems and we discussed the issues, they ended up giving us a break on the next outing (about 50% off) so not all lost. It made the others in the group feel good. Point is, you're a paying customer and the service should be there, it's not just about catching fish, if they try their best to give you the service but something goes wrong, ties break during the trip, ice too thin so you need to walk out instead of being brought out by them....whatever....but if the ties were broken already before you even got started, and it made your trip rough, they should give you a break on a return trip (even for next year). As a guide service, you should expect to have the huts and rods supplied in pretty good shape and BE ON TIME! a call should have been made to you saying they are running late. SORRY but if you bust your hump to get there on time (many guys travel 3-4 hours that morning), these guys are usually staying in a motel in the area, they can try and be on time. Hopefully the next trip would be better.

DId you talk to the guys about things while you were there? I seen these guys on sunday morning leaving the ramp with at least 1 atv and 2 skidoos? I know Jeff, Paul and Joe and are great guys and great guides and go out of their way to make their customers happy. If you are not satisfied with your day contact Jeff and the guys and talk it out. It is not like them to see any customer unhappy. When the fish are on the big bite even a hurricane does not feel that bad but when the fish are as inactive as they were last weekend it can make for a long frustrating day. I know where you were fishing and gurantee the fish were there but just were not cooperating. Sometimes it happens and the fish will not cooperate no matter what you do.
I have only been out 14 times this year and fortunately only got skunked 2 times(once was at the battle). I fished the same hole for 3 days nailed them the first day. skunked the second and nailed them the third. The fish were still there the day I got skunked but did not want to eat anything I thru at them. Call these guys and talk to them about things. They are stand up guys.

just to clarify,the snowmobiles were ours,if we had not brought them it would have been much later to start fishing

Guide late + Bad Equiptment + missing prime time fishing hours because guide was late = Legit Gripe. But what do I know... I only have a half dozen posts!
