Well, well well where do I begin ? I guess the beginning is a good place to start.
Gordo, first off it was a lot of fun having you guys out on sunday even if you did not have an ideal trip. I have to admit tho the post took us by surprise as there was absolutely NO mention of your disappointment in the days events. In fact it was quite the opposite your crew had nothing but good things to say and when a discount was offered for the poor afternoon bite and some other things it was refused and we were told "hey it happens, you guys did a good job and have to make a living too"
Next, as for the being late I would totally agree in most cases being "LATE" is not excusable but in this case we were told we would be contacted late the night before or the morning of to let us know if there were 4 or 5 of you coming because if there was a fifth we would need to supply a third hut. Jeff tried calling the contact number that morning and the gentleman's cell had been left at home, Paul and I were at the ramp and Jeff was going to have you meet us there no way to contact you So he went to pick the hut up regardless, yes he was late arriving to meet you due to this. An apology was due and I believe your crew received that, Let's all remember we are human and make mistakes, can they be avoided? perhaps but nevertheless they are mistakes.
As for the one quad well we had two quads and we knew you were bringing 2 snowmobiles so we were more than adequately setup to get you guys to the fishing grounds. One of our guys had to head home in the afternoon and took his quad with him, we were .8 mile from shore and the trips off the ice were quick and painless.
On to the hut, yes the hut was beat up and we have backups but our tarps were in being repaired and unfortunately had to make do with what we had for this I may not have apologized for earlier but I will take the opportunity to do so now. I'm sorry one of the huts was not up to par.
To be honest much of your day could have been improved with a little bit of communication. If you or any of the other 4 guys had expressed displeasure with your setup we could have and would have offered up one of use, Jeff gave up his flasher because one of flasher's you brought had a dead battery! We would have and have in the past given up heaters flashers, food , fresh socks whatever to try and make the "experience" everything it should be but it's kind of hard to do that when all the communication was good stuff! One question that kept coming up in this post was "did you express your concerns to us?" the answer is NO! so how could we possibly try and repair or mend a situation without knowledge there is a problem??? If you go to dinner and your server is clueless your order is wrong and your food is cold, do you leave a big tip? do you fill out the comment card with all "excellent "? and then go home and call your neighbor to say how terrible it was? I don't think so, at least I don't... you ask for a manager and you expect your issues get dealt with.
Next the post count thing who cares we all start somewhere as long as all 75241369852140 post aren't "nice fish" all post are valuable.
We did NOT miss prime time fishing, a little late perhaps but we still caught fish and made the most of the time we had. when the morning bite died we were making backup plans for an evening bite but when it was discussed with the group everyone was happy with the morning bite and wanted to tough it out for the eve fish.
Hose22 I wasn't out with you guys on the Saturday but i know you guys requested to not have huts as u always fish outside I did meet Jeff in town at lunch to bring him some supplies for the afternoon, I also know he grabbed some lunch and picked up a friend for the afternoon fish I can't really comment on the afternoons events but I do know you had 2 guides on the ice with you while he was gone. Also sunday was a mess, trailer had major major damage due to a blown bearing and lost wheel, Jeff had the bait buckets in the trailer but you did have bait I gave some to you myself, it may have been somewhat mickey mouse bait containers but you had bait!. We were on time in fact a few minutes early and we offered you the huts for free and did not charge you for sunday at all due to the events that took place. As for jeff being on the phone... lol yeah it rings a lot! no question between his family, prospective clients, or whatever else he has going on it rings and he answers. In most cases the guides do fish in an effort to try and pinpoint what the fish are doing, whether we're on a zone with decent fish or whatever. but one thing is for sure we do spend time with clients, teach some basics, do some follow up and even just sit or stand around and shoot the breeze. To make a comment about any of us sitting in our huts fishing is absurd in my opinion it's part of the game. not all of our clients want to "bond" with us in a hut for the whole day and want to be on fish, so if we can determine what the picture is like below the ice we can try and improve those odds for the client. It's just not fair to imply we sit in a hut all day closed off from the group.
Grizz, I also find this thread very interesting I haven't been an official member of the Quinte Ice fishing team long but in the time I have been Jeff and I have always done what we thought was best for clients. when fishing has been tough we've offered discounts... did we not work as hard those days? no but we realize the expectations and the how valuable the all mighty dollar is and even tho we don't have control over what those fish do on any particular day, we try to make things as good as possible. If that means we take home less than we take home less! that is a decision our team makes at the time and we have done it on more than one occasion. As for the Late thing, no excuses for the most part but if a trailer tire falls off or something like that than I believe it should be forgivable? no??? I also think its a very unfair comment to say we don't care about the client and only his money... there are two sides to every story and sometimes what you see is what you get. mistakes happen but also feedback in person is important as well I mean in most cases there are 2-4 guides on the ice at any given time. If a client did not want to talk to the person head on for fear of confrontation his or her concerns could be voiced to any of the other guides to try to correct the situation. I do care about our clients, new, old, or otherwise, I know you can't always please everyone but I can still try. what frustrates me the most is that NONE of these concerns were voiced to us directly!!! how can anything be done if we're under the assumption all is good? A lot of people have pounced on us in this thread without hearing any other facts and some have stood up for us asking if we had been notified of the issues... I'd like to think that's because these guys know us and know that we wouldn't just turn a blind eye to a known issue. I think we work hard, fish hard and try to give all our clients the best experience possible... life isn't perfect and it's not always going to work out that way but it's how we deal with those situations that define us, and I guarantee you that none of the members of this team have ever turned a blind eye to an issue at the expense of one of our clients. We always have and will continue to put the client first and no matter what happens do everything we possibly can make their trip to BOQ the best it can be whether it's their first or 10 millionth trip.
All this being said, I would encourage Gordo, getthenet and hose22 if you feel like you did not get what you bargained for in your trip, please pick up a phone or pm me and we'll call you when it's convenient for you and try and rectify the situation somehow.
