Quinte Fishing

And unfortunately after 4 hard (10 hour days in the boat) days of fishing, I dont have much to report. We fished mostly due to the winds around picton bay, trolled the cement plant, trolled and jigged the green buoy by the ferry, we drifted the small island points, we trolled the shorelines and ever point we could find.....all this, we got one fish...and basically we got him right in front almost of the dock at the cottage we were staying at in picton.

Overall though, we had fun. For those that live in the area, congradulations...you have a very clean town that was most welcoming to us.

I will have a hard time convincing myself to come back for the fishing, because im still a bit disappointed in our performance, but I would definately come back to just get out on the water and relax.

PS...thank you Merland Park for a wonderful time. I have never had so much fun at a cottage that I didnt own...You guys have a beautiful facility and I will be back just to enjoy the cottage again.

Sorry to hear you couldn't hone in on the walleye but trust me, we've all been there. Tons of fish in the bay but you gotta get right on them, The best thing you can do till you get a little experience is watch for nets in the water and do whatever they are doing. Stick to the basics. Uzick or victor spinners with half a worm in silver, green or orange. We normally run lures about 3 feet behind a keel sinker or split shot. Sometimes it's just the difference between 1/8 ounce or 1/4 split shot. Those walleye are fussy!!!
Best thing to do after a trip like that is go back into the photo gallery and remind yourself how sweet it is when you break the 10 pound barrier. Our personal best so far is 14 pounds 1 ounce taken north of Picton near Huff's landing. Hope you'll try it again with better luck. We've been fishing out of Perfect Vue on Hay bay for 20 years and we still have the odd zero fish day!!

Like the previous post states, don't give up. The Bay of Quinte is a fantastic fishery. There are times you can't keep the fish off the line and other times you think you are fishing in a bath tube.

Stay confident and do everything you can to put the percentages into your favour. Remember the littles thing like line diameter. The water is pretty clear in the bay and fishing with 14 lb diameter line may cause the fish to shy away from your offering (I use flurocarbon 8 lb diameter line). It is not just all about lure selection. Boat control is often another over looked area that you need to pay attention (trolling speed between 1.5 and 1.8). There of course is a whole list of things that can impact your success and my point is don't over look the little things.

I think as a matter of fact i might try it up there again this fall......
