Talk to Al, he should know - he said the ice pack near Wellington was large and waiting for north wind.

The river at Port Hope is open below the train bridges - they were fishing there last Monday when I travelled to Toronto.

The water was very murky for a distance along the shore west of the river mouth along that beach.

Cheers

the rivers are all blown out right now, running like chocolate milk, take the kids to the movies, they,ll be happier that day,the rainbows are there but it,ll be tough,if you are going try port hope-on the lake which-ever side is clearer-egg sinker and floating roe bags is the norm, try pinks, oranges and always chartruse--goodluck!

I was at the Ganny today. It's open all the way through to the lake. We saw a couple roll on the surface and a few were caught. Water is real murky. We tried roe and casting spoons out on the piers, but no takers.
The usual crowd was below the tracks, but not many fishing out on the piers.

So we hit the Ganny this morning with the kids. I had worms and a number of spoons and spinners. The spot we had was not good for kids casting so worm and hook it was. We lasted a short time, the kids lost interest after watching others with roe sacks land a number of large fish (for us) and throw them back :0

On the way home we drove along the lake front and saw some people fishing off rock inlets. Anyone willing to explain their set up? What is the bait and how to get it out off shore?

Hi Grizz

Its been a while for me but we used to fish the rivermouths at this time of year for bows. Most will be useing long noodle rods to launch your bait out. The bait of choice is usually roe bags with styrafoam floaters mixed in with eggs. They are usually rigged on a lindy style rig with a 2 foot leader. Some will use some sort of indicators with an open drag as the fish will drop the bait if they feel any resistance. The heavy wait gets your bait out there. It can be hit & miss but I have seen some great days and the timeing seems about right. If the water is clear green/yellow bags work, and if dirty the pink/white work best. I may try the Ganny myself tomorrow, I finally broke down and bought a centrepin reel so I am anxious to give it a try allthough I am also woried of embarasing myself as they do take a little getting use to.Hope this helps.

Gord

I started fishing the Ganny in the mid 70s.

I don't anymore and this is the reason why.

Grillzy, either you or Grizzly have to change your handles, people seem to be getting confused, LOL.
