I was talking to a friend of mine from Eagle Lake(Near Sharbot lake approx 45min-1hr North of Kingston) today and was inquiring as to the ice conditions up there (wanting to go catch some last ice splake) and he told me that due to all the rain the ice was lifting and that access to the ice was becoming a bit of an issue due to the ice beginning to pull away from shore. I know that on the Bay of Quinte here in Belleville, the ice is also pulling away from shore and open in many of the high current areas. My suggestion would be to stay off all ice at this time of year unless you are 100% certain that it is safe. And even then spud your way out and carry your ice picks!!!

give up on ice fishing, at least not with a kid, way to risky, there is several shore spots that have open water, check the bridge by fort henry (hwy 2). there has just been to much warm weather and rain. i tryed a few local lakes the last week, i found, one hit of the spud went trew, then read reports of people saying those same spots have 12 plus inches of ice.

I agree with fireball I would not be looking to go out now and definitely not with your daughter it is just not worth taking a chance. Never depend on a ice report from someone as conditions can change very rapidly. ALWAYS check the ice for yourself......

I think BOQ is dead for ice fishing man, or all the Walleye snobs don't really give a damn about perch or pike.... I think if you hit the non current areas, you'll be there all by your self, on safe ice, and a ton of fish to boot....
i'm going to simcoe on Saturday, apparently they'll be a large group of people there as well.

Ice is pulling away from the shores on Dog and Loughborough, especially on the north and west shores. If you know where to go you can still get out on the south side or shaded areas, docks, but even then I don't think it will last until Sunday. Not worth it.

Not sure about the Ottawa area, but as Bruce (dog lake) said the shores are starting to melt away. We needed to use a plank yesterday to get onto the ice at a popular pike and panfish spot north of the city and I actually went thru getting off the ice.

Especially with young ones, I would steer clear of the ice at this point regardless of there being lots in the middle of the lake, getting on/off is now the issue.

Good Advice above!!..

the ice is away from shore on the Rideau at Portland.. both Beverleys are open in places where there is the slightest current...

the ice around the docks at the marina on the Rideau side of the Causeway in Kingston has disappeared..

I went out yesterday on lake Simcoe in search of yellow perch...the area I went out on was Cooks Bay.I headed out from the end of Gilford road around 10:30 am the shoreline was pretty soft and beat up then... once I got out on solid ice I found that there was at least 16 inches of good ice,I'm sure that won't last long with this weather.Anyway when I came in off the ice around 7:pm the shoreline where I headed out from was mostly open water...I had to walk through about a foot of water in some spots to get off the lake.Looks like that was my last icefishing trip for this season :( ...play safe people.
