Having seen the devastation of a cormorant population that no longer has any natural "checks and baclances", I am supportive of this cull in BOQ. I know the area and know the damage.

I equally believe I have a rough understanding of where Wulff is coming from (I have a small home in BC).

We live in a very unusual time for all things relating to nature. It is no longer like it was 200 + years ago and any sence of balance can no longer exist in its purest form (in my opinion). I would like to see the clock turned back, but alas that is not going to happen. The best case scenario to me, is proactive inovative management and equally proactive measures taken on all fronts. This can mean going against the status quo at times and even having to face the fact that one can be semi vocal and have to be unpopular, in getting some remote semblence of balance to appease all interests.

I support MNR on this management decision and hope this is a small beginning of something good.

The cormorants in the UK are part of the European population. Any large-scale cull of cormorants here may simply create a 'gap' for birds from elsewhere in Europe. To make any difference to the cormorant population, it is estimated that 30,000-60,000 cormorants would have to be killed every year throughout Europe. This is not only impractical; it simply would not be acceptable to the general public.

That is a good looking site Mike. I have not went all through it, but was impressed with most of what I saw. Thanks for posting this.....it is good to see people thinking creatively as to management alternatives.
