I made the 5 hour trip up to the 1000 islands for the turkey opener on Sunday. Turkeys were gobbling all over the place Sunday morning but I couldn't get one to come in. This morning I could barely get an answer. This one didn't talk at all until it was just about in gun range. Kind of surprised me actually. He was following a hen and she brought him right in. I have been hunting turkey for 5 years now and managed atleast one each year but this is the first one I have called in myself. It had a 7 3/4 inch beard, spurs were 3/4 inch tops. The scale read 21 lbs, seems a bit high to me but..... Even managed a few crappies in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday. Great week-end.

Nice Tom. It is pretty cool when you call them in. Five hours seems like a long way to go though. Seems like he called you in from that far :D

Thanks. Yeah, 5 hours is a haul. That is where I grew up. Family and friends still up there. I make the trek to ice fish, opening of turkey, opening of duck, a few days for deer. My wife and children only like to come north when the weather is warmer and we can spend time at the cottage.

21 lbs is not too big, many birds over 20lbs being shot this year, guess the winter wasn't as hard on them as we thought. Congrats on the nice Gobbler..

That is a fine looking gobbler , congrats ! My son got a nice jake last year and I have to say that was so tasty ! It's nice to see the turkey population is thriving well there as well in my area of Niagara .

Nice bird Shawn. My brother and I each got nice birds with 1" spurs and 8 1/2" beards. My brother also took a Jake and we both passed up other Jakes. We've been on birds all three days.
Rainy today and tomorrow but may go after the browns again Thursday. Glad you had a successful trip up north. Steve Side said they got some crappies this weekend at Butterfield. I'm headed to Quinte on Friday.
