Big Bass

Although my buddy and I fish the Bay, on occasion we can't help but launch the boat on Collins Lake. Last year my buddy's biggest bass (using a live frog) on Collins was a 6.5 lb largemouth. In 2002 he also caught a 6.5lb largemouth. In 2001 another buddy caught a 6lber on Collins - all largemouth bass. Livebait -frogs and minnows have been the ticket.

Great report CnR, can you recommend a place to launch a 16'er, and how deep is the general fishing ground in that lake...thanks in advance

There is a private launch (you have to pay the owner $5) on the eastern end of the lake. The owner's house is right on the lake and can be reached off montreal street. sorry i don't know the surname of the owner. I believe the deepest section of the lake is 30-40 feet but you don't have to go that deep for the bass.

Thanks for the quick response. I presume Montreal St. is same as County Rd.11.....and from which there are two side roads leading to the eastern side of the lake, so which one will be a better beg....1st or 2nd from the Hwy? Thanks a bunch!

North on Montreal to Moorland dixon ( flashing yellow light) make a right boat launch and house is on your right around 5oo yards down. You don,t need to use live frogs to catch the bass (I,m sure they work) but how many fish swallow the hook and must be kept? Black/blue jig and pig will do the job, white spinnerbait will get you pike, please keep all the pike you wish to eat ( within limits) as they accidently made it in to this lake and are explodeing. This lake is a sleeper muskie lake and the pike will be its downfall in the years to come, we need all the help to slow it down. Hope this helps, Good Luck

A buddy fished the Loughborough last weekend and they nailed a lot of pike too....hammer handles to 3~4 lber's
