Does anyone use tubes for largemouth, or are they more for smallies?? I've done some research on the internet, and most of the sites say tubes are mainly used for smallies. Any opinions??

I know a guy that only fishes tubes, he owns other stuff, but since the 90's when tubes came out, he has swore there the greatest thing on earth, if i am trowing a top water frog, he still trows a tube, and catches fish.. they do tease him and say he never catches any thing, and compared to me or the others he fishes with he doesnt do as well.. tubes will diffently catch you largies, how ever its not the best techinque, try the good old jig n pig style... or a creatcher bait, or cranks, top water frogs, spinner baits, buzz baits, etc.. i could go on and on.... just to many other metods that work well but.. bottom line is what ever you have confindence in is what you will do well on..

I always have one on the deck when i'm fishing largies. so many ways to use a texas rigged tube....flip, jig . rip , hop , drag, skip, drop in weed pockets... very versitile bait. weighted with EZ loader tube insert and 3/0 to 4/0 extra wide gap hook .

I also have a rod made up with a tube bait on standby so to speak....and on those days when I can't seem to buy a bite with anything else (short of a wacky worm) I find a very lightly weighted tube sloooooow sinking can tempt them and save the day. As I say my last resort is an un-weighted wacky worm but I don't have the patience to fish this rig for very long.....

As you may have gathered, I am not a Bass angler, I just enjoy fishing for bass..... :)

Steve,
I dont like the fact that if you want to go to a heavier weight you have to cut and retie. With these weights it take me a whole 20 sec to change the weight.

interesting Dan.

thanks for that info.

i agree about changing the weights...i usually have two tied on actually, one very light, then one a little heavier...i never fish tubes in water deeper than 5' (generally anyways)...i love them in the open area's of the slop....

i need to start running them more on deeper weed lines...but right now i've found deeper running cranks and paca craws do that nicely.

so many options.... IS IT FREAKING TIME YET!

Hey guys, this is a Swimbait hook, which I'm sure you've seen before, which I think would work good for Texas rigged tube, and you wouldn't have to retie to change rubber. This is a 4/0 hook, with a 1/16 weight. I guess you would have to retie to change weight, but maybe another option. The weight slides up and down the shaft to change presentation. Just a thought!!

only problem with that hook is the weight is outside the tube and would get hung up on weeds sometimes when filpping, also i dont know how well that keeper would keep the tube on the hook

Ya, good points Dave, but after 2 or 3 casts, no matter what you're using, you usually have to adjust the rubber. I'll agree though because the tubes are hollow, they may not stay on the keeper like a "solid" swimbait or worm. If you hook the tube into the solid part of the rubber, it keeps pressure towards the keeper, so I don't think it'll be any different than any other soft plastic. Anyways, hopefully they'll be biting good enough where I won't have to worry about minor details!! LOL!!

Good Luck on opener !!!
