Hello.

This Friday I am hoping to take the new boat out (if I can find a fishing partner for the day) for its first open water fishing trip and try my luck for a salmon or two. The boat is only a 17 foot deep V aluminum so I don't plan on heading too far out. I don't have downriggers yet, so I will give it a go using leadcore and dipsey divers.

I'm in the Ottawa area and have never fished eastern Lake Ontario so just looking for general suggestions on areas to try, boat launch locations... without having to drive too far west and without having to go out too far to find potentially productive water.

Thanks.

Jim

Hey Jim, Wellington will be hot for the next month or so, as long as we don't get stack up with hot water like last July.
I have been on the salmon scene since the mid 70's and if I was only allowed to use one technique it would be wire divers or braid divers. Second would be cores in the spring and copper later in the season.
Many guys become toooooo dependent on down riggers where the first thing the king sees is this huge weight coming at him.
The other techniques are much more stealthy and a lot more versatile.

Wellington should be your first choice in July coming from your area, and then Port Hope in August. The guys here are very helpful and we all work together. If you come down check into the Reel Thing tackle shop in Wellington, and Chris will give me a call. If I am home, I will run up and help to give you the hot tips and locations for the weekend.

later
Al
